The 2015 IAA in Frankfurt closed its doors now. A new record was set with 950,000 visitors. Frederic Schlosser Photography took this pic of a Mercedes-Benz S 500 e for us. :)

Love that photo, it looks so dignified.

The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is slightly faster in the S 350 d with 9G now, 6.5 seconds instead of 6.8 seconds previously according to MB specs. While the fuel economy improved further, from 7.0 l/100 km to 6.4 l/100 km in town, from 4.7 to 4.6 l/100 on the highway, and from 5.5 to 5.3 liters/100 km combined. CO2 emissions dropped from 146 to 139 g with the 9G. A number of options changed, like the car telephony etc etc, so it's not clear how much of the price change is due to different standard options. Most of the time there's a small base price adjustment when new lists are issued. :)

The new list, albeit in German, is available to download (pdf) here:

Mercedes clearly has a problem with the CLS, not sure exactly what the issue is. Those numbers are WAY off from last year and this year is the facelift!

Clearly me seeing new CLS400s regularly means nothing per those numbers. Tennmb might be able to shed some light on the issue with the CLS' sales.

I don't think a new 7-er is really going to significantly improve BMW's sales in this segment. After all, there are only so many buyers for cars in the $ 100K-$ 150K market. I live in DC and the S-class is the status-quo for upper-end neighborhoods in both MD and VA. Furthermore, the diplomats in DC all deploy either S-class or Suburbans as their choice of vehicle. I've rarely seen a BMW with diplomat tags on it in our town.

Not only is the status-quo hard to overcome for BMW, but the fact that they don't offer the variety that MB does in this price range. You've got the standard S550/S600 sedans, the coupes, the AMG's (BMW has no M-version of the 7), the Maybach and soon the convertible. The breadth of the S-class line up is simply staggering.

^ Just for fun, anyone here has the sales data of the 7er vs S in the U.S for the last 10 years or so?
Or should we continue this in the sales data threads?

I don't think a new 7-er is really going to significantly improve BMW's sales in this segment.

I think it will. Might indeed not touch the S class sales, but it will sell 10 times better than the last September 2015 sales you posted. So second after the S class.

The CLS really has fallen, i think also because of the amount of competition. when it came out it was a 1 model catalogue....

It's pretty obvious the last couple of months of 7er sales don't represent the average at all @DexterMorgan

Still, the S class will keep it's advantage in the U.S. Margins are tighter in the EU though, I believe.
