S-Class W222 [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).
Thanks hoff... This was the first car that I didn't just buy off the lot. Hoping to switch to a facelift S-Klasse in 2018, going to be tough deciding between exclusive Nut Brown/Black or Crystal/Seashell Grey...

I prefer the nut brown.

The grey looks deyted.

Have to agree with T&T, even though I like the metalized ash, with the gray it's just too much monotonous gray. Personally, I am more partial to either the brown or blue leather that's offered in the S-class. You currently have the Sunburst wood trim, yes?

Actually it's the standard wood trim; sunburst would be an option, like the metalized ash. I love my Brown/Black interior, but after 5yrs, I may be in the mood for something else. No way I choose any exterior color but anthracite, the all grey would go nicely with the dark blue/grey exterior... The metalized ash looks amazing with that grey leather, the photo off the internet looks very dull, I agree. If I was not coming off 5yrs with the Brown/Black, I agree with you guys all the way... This oldie but goodie video @ the 44sec mark shows the grey/metalized ash in a better light...

Yeah, the video does do it better justice. It's seems more serene, almost spa-like.

From the archives - a look back in time: In 1982, this was the S-Class line up (W126 before facelift). From the 280 S with a 156 hp caburetor I-6 up to the 500 SEL with its V8 injection engine delivering 231 hp. S-Class ownership starting at 21,500 EUR. And all models coming with 14 inch (!) wheels :)

Crazy, but in a positive kind.

:)
Those back seats have side bolsters that are even sportier looking (more bucket type) than the front seats!!

Those were the days. And take a look at that VAT %; 13%!! Today it's 19% in Germany and 21% in the Netherlands.

Initially, I didn't care for the 2-spoke steering wheel. But I like it now. It's much different than M-B's other steering wheels found elsewhere, thus making it even more special, as an S-class ought to be. Also it gives it that old-school regal charm...a 4-spoke is too busy and a 3-spoke has an inherent sporty character. In some subliminal way, the 2-spoke reminds the driver that the S-class' first priority is to ensconse the driver and its passenger in luxury.

^ Yes. Could well be. It's a Special Special VIP Order. :)

Is it me, or is that a SWB? I am surpised to see a SWB S-class in the US.

It's definitely not SWB; if you look at the other pics on that Instagram account, you'll see they're all distorted a bit.

I think it speaks to the beautifully balanced proportions of not just the 222 but every S-Klasse. Long wheel based competitors, especially the XJ-L, have that stretched out look to them...
Of course, it could just be the camera lens aspect...:-)

Is there any word on when the 9G transmission will be standard on the U.S. market S550 models? The SL550 should get it too. I guess it will be many more years before the V12s get it.

The best colors Mercedes had back in the day was Dessert Taupe and Emerald Green. The W124 E500 in Dessert Taupe was the best looking Mercedes possible. Signal Red was also a pretty color for the R129 SL. Interior, that Palomino Tan was really something.

Mercedes should consider bringing back some of these colors on limited production (i.e, the more expensive) models. A S600 Maybach in Dessert Taupe would be stunning.

What I find even more stunning is that this 1982 paint work folder was separate from the model brochure and it had real samples of paint applied (albeit thin), so that it came with a thin separating paper so that the pages don't stick. When Mercedes-Benz was still a true premium brand, and cost did not matter...
