Short update
Quality issues. Since last week I'm confronted with creak/grate/grint/squeak noises coming from the left front door/B-pillar. Not constantly, but when driving over a larger crack in the road for instance or passing Railway crossing. Could be the material covering the B-pillar or the seat belt adjustement. I just can't stand these noises.

@ other S-Klasse owners: how are your experiences on this matter?

I post it here because I couldn't find a better discussion and maybe it's to early to create a thread about the next generation. I hope it's ok.

Next-generation Mercedes S-Class could feature gesture control technology
Company is also considering a redesigned infotainment system
Mercedes is still rolling out new S-Class variants but details are starting to emerge about the next-generation model which will reportedly be launched in 2018.

In an interview with Auto Express, Mercedes’ chief interior designer Jan Kaul confirmed the company is working on gesture controls which would enable drivers to access certain functions by using hand gestures. Kaul declined to go into specifics but said we'll see gesture recognition technology "soon."

The designer also revealed Mercedes could integrate the infotainment system into the digital instrument cluster. Audi introduced a similar system on the 2015 TT but Kaul said "We only do things because they are right for us, not because our rivals do."

Kaul also revealed we can expect to see single-piece trim fittings and lightweight one-piece seats in the future.

2018 is a little soon, no? I already heard the gesture control system was supposed to be in the next-gen E-class which is coming in 2017.

Not good. I would be very interested in learning more about other's experience as well. I'm strongly considering trading in my dear w220 for a w222. But if there are quality issues, I may wait another year and get a MY2016 instead. No rush.

They're talking about the "next generation" as in the facelift. No way there will be a totally new S-Class in just 4 years or less.

This was the point which made me confused. When they mean with "next generation" the facelift then everything is all right.

Yes, I just read this yesterday, but apparently Mercedes is now using the term 'New Generation' to refer to facelifts and 'All New' to refer to new models. They've been learning a bit of BS from BMW creative marketing.

That said 2018 would be very late for the S-Class facelift. Unless they plan on a new model sooner since the S is not yet on the new rear wheel drive architecture.

@ Mr. Mercedes: absolutely agree with you. 2018 for the MOPF/FL would be at about 5 years after introduction in 2013. If that's so, we're looking at another W126 in sense of total time of production (W126 september 1979 - october 1991).

I think this rumor has some basis. There are no more quantum leaps to be made in terms of performance and weight savings with the existing construction technology. The next S Class will most probably make extensive use of 'new' materials to slash weight, reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and improve performance. Other technologies to look out for will be miniaturised and highly efficient hybrid and pure electric drive units. But whatever the case may be, the next S Class will debut 1-2 years before the next BMW 7-series.

Update: Noises since this weekend almost contantly. Visiting Servicecenter next wednesday. Noises are driving me crazy and I'm seriously considering selling my car. If there's anything I can't stand, it is these kind of noises in a car in this price segment.
Anyone else suffering the same experience? Have any of you Mercedes-Benz-related guys heard of this problem with W222? I know there's a quality issue with interior of A-/CLA/GLA-Klasse.
