S-Class [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé Facelift (C217) 2017-

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.
That’s what I was referring to Luw. But our new prices are so obscene (f*** the luxury car tax) that even used examples are overpriced. By the time they become reasonable in price they are out of date in terms of driver and infotainment technology. Not that dad would care. But I do and I drive his car 70% of the time lol.

The funny thing is the W222/C217 facelift (along with the E-class) is the first MB facelift in a long time where the tech is relatively future-proof. It's reached the same level as idrive Ver. 4.0/5.0, meaning it'll look fine and be intuitive for at least 4-5 years.

I always the thought the COMAND in prefacelift S was a work in progress. Lots of features, but too layered and at times un-intuitive.

The new MBUX shown at CES is super cutting-edge, but the current impletation is good enough.

Surely the ride comfort and power delivery will make make up for not having an infotainment with the latest animations :P Furthermore I echo @sako97. The command in the S Coupe is more than good enough.

Lots of 2015 ex lease and finance S Coupes will hit the market in the next 12 months. Used prices will come down and slightly higher milage models will be more easily found. I do agree though that they are obscenely priced in Oz.

Going to post it here as well, custom order S 65 coupe. All the taxes and stamp duty alone can get you a C 63. My friend eventually changed his mind an went with the S 63 instead and save himself $100k AUD....

That's an absurd amount of money. In the UK it's half that sum. I wasn't aware cars are that expensive in Australia.

Yeah, depreciation on these big-ticket luxury machines is quite amazing.

It's ironic given that the S-Class is considered to be the best car in the world. Ultimately, out of warranty repair combined with high fuel economy and taxes curbs demand. The ABC suspension in particular is extremely expensive to repair. Warranty is extendable but my friend was quoted £3,000 for his CL but didn't bother as his previous E55 was reliable.

Yeap, the Australian government will keep getting away with it, even with our E 400, we paid over $24k AUD, in tax and duty, which is a price of a brand new Golf. I get why Asian countries have heavy tax on cars to discourage car ownership but in Australia, we need cars.

What about cars manufactured locally or electric ones. Are they taxed leniently?

The locally manufactured cars don't have to pay the 5% to 10% import tax, but the other taxes still applies. The import tax is already included in the starting price of the car before all the other tax and duties compound on top of one another.

There is no special incentive for electric cars, however the LCT (Luxury car tax) threshold for fuel efficient cars (using less than 7L/100km) starts at $75k AUD instead of $65k AUD. Which means every single Tesla sold in Australia is taxed to the full effect.

Did I miss something or is it true that the new V8 in the 560's is the same 4.0-liter from the AMG GT?

They taxed 'the rich' on the pretense they were protecting the 'local car industry' by using the revenue to subsidies the local manufacturers. Now that industry is dead they continue to tax 'the rich.' They're just addicted to the revenue which is expected to grow to AUD$600million per anum in the next few years.

If you don't mind, can you tell us the price and taxes+duties you paid for your S63 coupe?

At present $214k

The v8 in the 560 is built by AMG.

It sort of begs the question, what makes an AMG anymore? We have all these new semi-AMGs and regular MBs that that come with fitted with AMG body kits standard.

The only true changes between a S560 and 63 are an ECU upgrade, MCT, bodykit, and exhaust. AMG suspension on the S, isn't really any different than a regular S-class with 20"

Now the poseurs who throw AMG badges on non-AMGs have an actual excuse.

Is the power delivery or throttle sensitivity different on the S63?
