Those headlights look very thick/tall, reminds me of the first gen GL, too early to judge tho

Yeah, they look more rectangular and taller/thicker than the current GLS. I do think the twin vertical 3-pointed star DRLs look unusual in a nice way.

Rear end also looks substantially different.

But isn’t the GLS just an long wheel base GLE with the same interior, the same as BMW X7 with X5? They can call it what they want, but it is what it is.

Yeah it's pathetic. For both, I hope they actually deserve their name next gen, and not simply be a modded GLE/X5

then it needs an interior to match the S-class.

But not just match the quality, also have it's own bespoke design. A GLE interior/console with some added wood and leather doesn't cut it.

The GLS is not just a longer GLE, I believe it’s bigger in every dimension. Design wise they’ve always shared the same interior of course because of where they’re built.

I don’t see anything pathetic about it.

Can you actually tell me what the issues are specifically with the GLS or X7 interiors? I mean right now the E has a more advanced interior than the S.

M

The issues with the interiors of GLS and X7 is that they are identical to an inferior model, they doesn’t even have an own interior made for them. I can’t see, even in my wildest dreams (and my dreams can be quite wild), that it would me acceptable for an S-class to have identical interior as the E-class.

So then no actual issue outside of it being a mental thing. Now I agree that the GLS should have its own interior, but when people say that there is an issue as they are now they can never say what the actual “problem”is. There was a time when every Mercedes had the same interior.

Not having their own interiors is the "problem"

Gadget wise you mean? Because the E class looks mainstream mass market next to the more bespoke looking S class, design wise and material wise..

Yes, it is a mental thing. But buying a Mercedes/BMW is a mental thing, for their customers this is an issue, they want a car that is exclusive. For the potential buyer of a Dacia this would not be an issue.
But it is not only the mental thing, it is also because when you pay more money for a car you want more quality. A GLS should have similar interior quality as a S class if it really is equivalent to S class. I see that you self complainted about the GLS interior earlier in this tread, and you did this with good reason.

The only problem with all of this is that there is nothing exclusive about a GLS. No matter what interior you give it. You’d have to get the Maybach version any type of true exclusivity. How is it an issue when it comes to actual sales tho? My complaint about the GLS interior is more design than quality. Do we know that there is a big difference in quality between the S and GLS interiors quality wise?

M

To be honest, the S-class of SUVs is actually the G wagen. If not in terms of luxury, it is in terms of reputation and build quality.

The GLS is the most logical thing to call a LWB 3-row SUV, unless they go back to call it the GL or something.
A proper "S-class of SUVs" wouldn't be a 3-row. It would be between a GLE and GLS in size with the S-class rear cabin.

Yes there is a big difference Marcus. I would love for the GLS to get upgrades over the GLE to make it more S.

Yes I think it is clear that S-class interior has superior quality to GLS. But for me the fact that the GLS (and X7) hasn’t been given their own interior is a problem in itself when they pretend to be S and 7 level cars.
