GLS [Official] Mercedes-Benz GLS Class (X166)

The Mercedes-Benz GLS, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, is a full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. The GLS is considered the flagship of the marque's SUV lineup, although the body-on-frame G-Class (originally intended for military off-roading but also offered in luxurious trims) is more expensive and has been in production longer.

Personally I like every part of the changes except the rear lights I preferred the previous rear light more.

I am not feeling this face lift.
Those huge bushy eyebrows are simply distasteful. The headlight clusters were not designed
for those C-Class graphics.

The AMG treatment makes it look even worse.

Thank you to the fellow member Wolfgang for this picture but I took it for the B class. So much resemblance which is not good. I know IRL it would look different because of the size but C class at the front and B class at the rear...what's going on in the Mercedes design department. Not much IMO.

Mercedes keeps telling us how big the GL is, but it isn't. It has NO MORE ROOM in the front and middle row than an ML. No more leg room. No more shoulder room.
It lacks in space compared to almost every full sized luxury SUV on the market. Plus it doesn't offer luxurious captions chairs or a middle row and extends/slides and/or retracts for flexibility in 3rd row seating.

I don't see any huge issue. I actually like it! Well done!

Though, they could certainly cultivate it better, next time.

I really like MB's current design direction, so the Wagener-ing of past Pfieffer designs is always a win for me. Upping the material choices is a step in the right direction for the interior of a refresh. It's a better vehicle today than it was yesterday and a great choice in the segment.

That said this is a car in desperate need of a clean sheet redesign, especially inside. It needs an S-class style interior, with captain's chairs, and more space efficiency. If the G is the epitome of Mercedes SUV ruggedness, this should be the epitome of comfort and tech.

Mercedes-Benz GLS pricing announced (UK)

Mercedes-Benz has disclosed pricing details for the GLS sold in United Kingdom where deliveries will start in March 2016.

Revealed at the beginning of the month, the facelifted GL is now available on order in UK from a starting price of £69,100 for the 350d AMG Line version, followed by the mid-range 350d designo at £78,095 and the flagship GLS 63 AMG at £102,330.

As standard, the full-size luxury SUV from Daimler comes with an 8-inch infotainment system, an AIRMATIC air suspension (with adaptive damping) and LED adaptive headlights. All cars also get the parking package, a panoramic electric sunroof, leather upholstery, memory front seats and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

The list of goodies doesn’t end here as the GLS in UK-spec also has heated seats for the first and second rows, along with three-zone climate control system, keyless go, tri-color ambient lighting and several safety and assistance systems like Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist.

Upgrade to the designo version and you get heated and cooled front seats, heated steering wheel, four-zone climate control (including for third row), designo nappa leather upholstery with diamond pattern quilting along with temperature-controlled cup holders. This mid-range version also has an interior air ionization filter and the Active Curve System which takes advantage of the active suspension stabilizers to improve stability and comfort, especially while cornering.

In terms of power, the GLS 350d has a V6 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 258 PS (190 kW) and 620 Nm (458 lb-ft) sent to both axles through a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission whereas the GLS 63 AMG has a beefier V8 bi-turbo 5.5-liter gasoline unit with 585 PS (430 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque delivered to the road via a 7G-TRONIC gearbox.

Mercedes-Benz UK will kick off deliveries of the GLS in March.
