GLS [Official] Mercedes-Benz GLS Class (X166)

The Mercedes-Benz GLS, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, is a full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. The GLS is considered the flagship of the marque's SUV lineup, although the body-on-frame G-Class (originally intended for military off-roading but also offered in luxurious trims) is more expensive and has been in production longer.
Lazy Mercedes, when they will put new inline diesel in GLS, and aslo spread complete gamma with new 200-220, 300 and 400d.
If BMW and Audi haven't more powerfull diesel's, they wouldn't even get new engines, sad. (n)
It's good that Audi and BMW with their offer forced Merc to work their lazy ass.
Poor diesel offer from Merc, till now...
The next GLE and GLS will most certainly receive the new inline 6 petrol and diesel engines with more power next year which will give Audi and BMW rivals better competition

Dont see a problem, there will be new model with new diesels? I would understand it if you raised that question 3-4 years ago but now...

Last month I got a GLS 500 4matic as a replacment car during my E class service.

I enjoyed evey mile I spent inside this car, although its huge, but it drives very well, lots of torque and power on all speeds, plus it had the 9G which works like magic. The car is super comfy and spacious, material quality is S class level.

Wouldnt buy one due to the aged interior and exterior, also the fuel consumption is high, but I was surprised by the joy of driving this car.

They are late far more than 3-4 years, they should answer on BMW 3,0d biturbo, or Audi V8 diesel.
From then, they are waiting. For sure it's not biggest problem now, for new engines, but far more back.
BMW offer E60 with 3,0 biturbo, Merc stay quiet.
BMW offer much wider engine choice than Mercedes.
You have C class with only 4 cylinder diesel, on the other hand you have BMW 335d.
E class vs 5 series, 1 series vs A class etc. Poor engine range from Merc.
Now they widened offer, but they still don't have answer on 50d ( BMW ) or 4,0tdi ( Audi ) .

I know, but they stoped while Audi continued with 4,0 tdi (4,2tdi ) and BMW replaced V8 4,0d with 50d ( 3,0 ).

Even if the GLS isn't as massive, its purpose was to silence Americans complaining that the GLE is too small. The GLS was certainly not designed for the European market in mind as it's substantially larger than most SUVs here, sells in...

Most North Americans haven't driven a car in Spain - we rented an Audi A4 and found you could barely fit it down a street (what with cars parked on the shoulder) because of its huge size. Parking it was a major event driving around Malaga/Marbella to find a free spot. Can only imagine struggling with a GL there! Many parked cars had marks on front and rear bumper from all the waggling to park with 4 inches to spare front and back! I did see a parked CL600 from the 90s.

Europe is alot older than the US and many historical towns and cities have cramped narrow roads streets that will never be demolished or widened.

Further more our parking spaces, at least in the UK, can be rather narrow and illsuited to the ever enlarging SUVs. When I had an X5 as a loaner I was unable to open the doors without touching the cars parked at either side.

I have seen numerous X5s and Touregs with dimple on body panels from other cars opening their doors.

In my current life situation anything larger than a GLC is too bulky for everyday pottering.
