GLS [Official] Mercedes-Benz GLS Class (X166)

The Mercedes-Benz GLS, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, is a full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. The GLS is considered the flagship of the marque's SUV lineup, although the body-on-frame G-Class (originally intended for military off-roading but also offered in luxurious trims) is more expensive and has been in production longer.
The taillights took a step backwards, in my opinion.

It's a massive step back. Why is the reverse light in middle as it the car is a B-Class. I really dislike that almost every new Merc has headlights derived from the A-Class.

The uniform approach to design is understandable but taking design ques from a hatchback and putting them on a car five times the price is no the way to go.

Mercedes SUV lineup was never attractive. They are very ordinary for Mercedes brand name. Only the old G class still have the class to wear the 3 pointed star. The GLS and GLE now gotten even worse than their pre-facelifted model with these ugly new headlamps.

Whenever I see these headlights, whether on S or A or anything in the middle, I want to like the design as I am still a MB fan by heart but just find them very unattractive on otherwise attractive sedans and coupes in general. Please change the designs of these wrap around the grille headlights on the facelifted S, C, and A and make them sharper.

AMG GTS is an exception and I am hoping that the SL would be too. I am more excited about the facelifted SL than the completely new E class because the E is already out in the guise of S/C classes. That's another problem for the Merc fan like me that a new car is actually not a new car by design. However the designers must be having a very good time as they don't have to imagine much for "new" designs.

Surprised at all the negative reactions. I don't really see this as being such a drastic change. Good thing is you only have to deal with it for 2-3 more years...

I couldn't agree more. I really like Mercedes current styling (S, S coupe, C, C coupe, upcoming E), but their headlights are quite ungainly. Too big, with acres of empty space that then gets filled with whatever they came with at last moment. Everything on top off the "eyebow" is just completely unnecessary and wasted space, IMHO. Also dislike the way they wraparound the grill, like a ( )
A bit sharper and more straight, and mainly, slimmer headlight cluster will do wonders....

A class headlights on every Benz bro :(

Seriously, there must be dozens of MB designers enjoying paid vacation, they haven't had much to do since the design of the A class and S class.

Niceee.
Did someone sat in GLE/GLE coupe, I'm wondering how this interior feels?

btw. will 9G tronic be available on V12 models?

Yes, actually. Everyone knew this car was going to get a somewhat awkward update to align it with current styling trends before the new generation hits.

I'm more shocked because not much has changed and no one seems to be concerned about how well it drives.

I don't think it will drive all that well.

The next gen should be a real S class SUV, that would be a sight to behold.

Why wouldn't it? It is consistently praised (at least in the US) for its drive. Not quite as nice as the Range Rover, but easily handling its closest competitor (Escalade).

Because MB has it fully to make something better than the Range Rover, instead of an XL GLE that isn't the best to begin with...

Truth be told, I don't think Mercedes was benchmarking the Range Rover directly up until the talk of the next generation bubbled up. If you go look at the dimensions and specs of the GL (including tow capacity) they are right in line with the Cadillac Escalade. This all without even mentioning the accommodations for the 3rd row seat.

I don't get the whole RR discussion. If anything, RR should be working on a GL competitor given that TATA doesn't offer a 7-passenger SUV to compete with the GL.

Sales data suggests the GL is doing just fine filling the niche it occupies. If anything, it needs to get a little larger and offer two-row captain's chairs to better take on its true rival - Escalade.

No matter how much leather and wood/carbon fiber they add, it will never hide just how old and unattractive that dashboard looks.

This is unfortunately so very true. A new head unit would work wonders for this interior.

Looks like Daimler corrected the video? :)

Yes, once a further 9G-Tronic update can take the humongous input torque of the V12, it's expected in the V12s as well. Not sure, though, at the present time, if or when the GLS might offer a V12. Might have to wait for the next generation? :)
