GLE [Official] Mercedes-Benz GLE (W166)

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class (designated with the "ML" nomenclature), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz since 1997. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS, the latter with which it shares platforms.
Sometimes a clean up in nomenclature does make sense. Just think, if MB hadn't revamped their model naming back in 1993, this C350e would now be called 190 E 2.0-16 Turbo Elektroantrieb :)

Leave these stupid games to Infinity, Mercedes...
First it was the M than it became the ML... only a couple of years ago they went back to M-Class and now it is the GLE. MB you look and obviously are confused. Changing the name won't help you catch up on sales...
Bring the new car already and this time it better be something.

Umm, it was never the M-Class.... everyone just called it that because it was easier (?) to say. However, Mercedes NEVER put M350, M550, M63 on the back of the SUV. I suggest you do research before making such "special" comments.

They sure wanted to. C, E, M, S....see a pattern?
They got stopped before they could even start.

And Mercedes-Benz still refers to it as the M-class. Regardless of that, the car was never badged that way so BigBenzGirl's second point still stands.

Yes, the 3-Series doesn't say 3-Series at the back either.
i'm special enough to be making special comments :)

That's correct.

From what I remembered it was originally conceived as M XXX, however, BMW raised issue that it was too familiar with their M cars. To placate their concerns (and possible legal issues), MB added "L."

It's going to be awkward at first, but for the sake of stream-lining their model range, it makes sense. Like how BMW created a quasi sub-brand with X and Audi with Q, this will help MB customers looking for an SUV. Also it helps makes expansion in the future more simplistic.

I wonder if Mercedes is break out the monthly sales between the GLE and the GLE Coupe, or just lump them all as the GLE? We need to see if this thing sells and how it sells vs the X6.

M

I actually like how this FL turned out. It's not quite an X5...but still a major improvement over the old one no? The GLE550e looks very interesting.

I won't lie. When I first saw the name, I was VERY confused. For some reason I thought it was another smaller SUV and scratched my head for a while. It seems nice, but I'm not sure if I like the interior as much. In some of those pics the screen just like kind there...

Front looks great with new grille and lights. Oh, if they could have only updated the tail lamps to match the GLE coupe.

Guarding the new GLE, from Tuscaloosa to NYC. :)

MB Passion provided some info about the new GLE's aerodynamics. Due to several measures, like reducing the gaps around the hood and headlights with seals, underbody cladding, spoilers at the top of the rear hatch, lips at the D-pillars and wheelhouses, and aerodynamic wheels the cd dropped to 0.32. The aeroacoustics could also be further improved to benchmark level, they write, by, for example, increasing the front glass thickness to 5 mm, and refining the mounts. The new GLE should arrive at the dealerships around September. :)
