The interior isn't really new. It's got a new command screen and air vents. Hardly a complete overhaul.
Yeah, but the E only got a new face. This one got a new face, a new interior and a twin (the coupé).
They're even marketing this as the successor to the ML.
This is the first production year for the GLE coupé. You think they'll just replace it in three years without giving it a facelift?
Time will tell.
So in keeping with Mercedes' new naming system, will the GL be renamed GLS?

I'm more ok with Mercedes calling this the GLE than I am with them turning the GL facelift into the GLS. We clearly know the GL has not been engineered or designed to the 'S' standard from the onset.
It shouldn't take BMW entering the game for Mercedes to build "Mercedes" quality vehicles or define a segment. MB has continually underestimated the high end SUV market. The original ML was an abomination, dumbed down to the US SUV market, instead of building a Mercedes and creating and defining the luxury SUV market. BMW pounced on Mercedes mistake. It's been that way with the GL for a while. Rover has been gobbling up "S-class" level clients, while Mercedes is wading in the shallow end of the pool with Infiniti and Cadillac. The GL is a stretched ML, and not much more. I suspect the X7 will push closer to the RR client and leave MB several years from a redesign when it will suddenly discover some things.I see what you mean but this GLE also looks like complete shit next to the W213 E class. And the all-new GL (S) will probably really be an S class SUV considering BMW is bringing the X7.
