G-Class [Official] Mercedes-Benz G-Class (W464)

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, colloquially known as the G-Wagon or G-Wagen (as an abbreviation of Geländewagen), is a four-wheel drive luxury SUV manufactured by Magna Steyr (formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch) in Graz, Styria, Austria, and sold by Mercedes-Benz. Originally developed as a military off-roader, later more luxurious models were added to the line. In certain markets, it was sold under the Puch name as Puch G until 2000.

I love the mix of matte black exterior but white leather and alcantara inside. Nice of MB to let people mix and match like that. Does the car, because of its propotions feel weird or funny to drive?
You know what luw it does. It takes a lot of getting used to, feels like I’ve moved to an 18 wheeler. It’s a boss driving experience though. Just a real tank plain and simple.

Remember I told you it drives like no other truck.

It's a really hot product, but I hope Mercedes doesn't or isn't already overproducing them. I seem them every single day now, many of them. I don't think that is a good thing. Is it time for them to cut back on production to save whatever exclusivity it has left? What do some of you rich guys think?

M

They are literally everywhere down here. Mercedes is selling as many as they can, and yes I think they should limit production to maintain exclusivity, retail prices and resale values.

The car will prove to be quite popular in certain European markets. Over here for example, it's half as expensive as a regular ICE G class and thus I see it driving around quite a bit already.

It's a niche model not a mainstream car.
I am very glad we have it available.
Agreed.
They're ensuring some kind of drivetrain flexibility so they can sell what people want when they want it.

MB executive’s common issue is that they’re looking for big volumes from otherwise niche offerings. Then they get triggered happy when sales doesn’t meet forecasts.

They pumped way too much EQ’s expecting big volumes, now dealers worldwide are literally giving away EQ’s with huge discount and begging MB corporate to stop sending them. EQ’s that they get on trade are immediately sent to auction. They’re producing way too many SL’s, another niche offering, so the days of supply volume is months long in most markets. I have my concerns that the R232 will be the last SL.

The S Class coupé, arguably one of the best executive coupé’s of this century, was discontinued due to low volume. But the lineage had a very niche and loyal client base that either bought their S’ off lease or have since moved on to a more exclusive brand.

The G580 should be a make-to-order car, with expectations that it will be a low volume offering for those looking for an eco-friendly retro-esque SUV or in certain markets as @klier stated.
