E-Class W212 [Official] Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG (W212) revealed

The W212 and S212 Mercedes-Benz E-Class series is the fourth generation of the E-Class range of executive cars which was produced by Mercedes-Benz between 2009 and 2016 as the successor to the W211 E-Class. The body styles of the range are either four-door sedan/saloon (W212) or a five-door estate/wagon (S212).
I agree, to be honest, at first glance I thought I was looking at a low-spec E-Class from Europe when I first saw the wheels. Not sporty or elegant to me, not to mention non-fit for that cars design IMO, and they give a visual impression of being smaller than the AMG 5-Spokes.

Yeah not the best alloy desing that for sure, but that's easily fixed. For those complaining the E looks subdued, have you checked out the M5?

These are BMW's and Mercedes after all, so over the top boy racer kits are not needed.

They should have waited to announce this just after the M5, especially if the numbers are superior.

I just drove the car at an AMG Driving Experience and wrote a review on it here: Quick Drive: 2012 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG | Autosavant

I really enjoyed the car and am really glad turbocharging didn't dilute the experience one bit.

I know it's mandatory by the U.S legislation and I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but...

... The orange turn signals look like :poop:!

But...they are not turn signals! They are just marker lights. Surprising how they get away with it on some cars like the ML by integrating them in to the front lamp cluster but on others, like the E, they don't even bother!

Here's a picture of the ML lamp cluster for reference:

It actually has to do with how the headlamp is designed. I for one HATE how M-B is doing it with the ML and SL, when it's integrated into the headlamp. Takes me back to 90's cars where in order for them to look even decent you have to buy "clear corners" right away. With these 1-piece headlamps, it's very expensive to rid those orange eyesores, as you have to get a whole new unit.

With the E, and all other cars with bumper reflectors, we can simply wrap over them in black (which I do and actually finds it can be a design enhancement if the car is thematic with the black color), or you can get cheap clear corners, or simply paint over it.

While you guys are talking about this, is it against the law to tamper with these orange side reflectors? If there aren't then why was it compulsory in the first place?

Indeed. The 212's front and rear just mean business, and it's not ashamed of it. Lots of careful design intricacies woven in, however, to ensure that it's also exciting at the same time. That's what's so great about it to me. "Restrained Flair".

One thing that people don't really notice, unless they own the car, is how amazing it is in a functionality sense to have that huge chrome grille up there, i.e the way the front is designed it's very hard to get rock chips on the hood and there's fairly minimal bumper space..... the chrome grille takes the vast majority of rock chips, etc. and you can barely notice them on that finish.... not to mention, it's easy to swap in a new one.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like the E63's side looks a little "naked" without the chrome strip. IMO it adds a little extra pizazz to the sides, but I don't mind tasteful chrome here and there.

I hard to believe this gonna be true. Who knows :)

Ouch I think we have a new king... or the RS6 has something to say about that?
The M5 will surely be slower than the E63 4Matic around most tracks and in straight line acceleration :)
What I do love is STRONG competition!

If the RS6 Avant can't beat that thing, then Audi will build the RS6 Sedan, for sure :D
