E-Class (W212/S212/C207/A207) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG (W212) revealed

The Mercedes-Benz W212 is the fourth generation of the E-Class range. It is the successor to the W211 E-Class. Body styles: four-door sedan/saloon (W212) and five-door estate/wagon (S212). Coupé and convertible models of the W212 E-Class generation are W204 C-Class based and known as the C207 and A207, replacing the CLK-Class (C209 and A209) coupé and cabriolet. Production: March 2009 – January 2016 (sedan), December 2009 – May 2016 (station wagon).

With this pic we can clearly see how outdated the E-Class design is. The front end is pretty fine with me. But the rest of the car, specially the side profile (the glasshouse shape and the strong angles) is dating fastly. When I see the proportions and stance of the W222 I can see the direction MB should follow with the W213. I would apply the same formula than with the W220 and W211.

Problem is the new front basically exaggerates how "dated" the hard angular sides are becoming if that's the case in how you're seeing it (dating-prematuraly is the curse of an angular design in many cases). At least with the original W212 it was all one character and formula. The car didn't run a risk of "dating itself". This is why I hate cars with various angles that have completely different design idioms. Not only do they obviously run incoherently, but they are practically harming each other.

It was meant as a compliment but you quite clearly failed to see that.

Seriously, some of these MB fanboys are completely out of control. Swearing, personal attacks and just lots of hostility when they think someone says something bad about the brand.

Well my friend, I´m not sure whether I should tell you this (given you tend to exagerate some design decisions) but look at you own car. BMW has enhanced a soft design like the F10 5er one, with a squarish and angular front bumper, which is the one that comes with the F10 M Pack.

I don´t want to get apart from the OP, but some times car designers enhance or correct a certain design with the addition of the design elements of the contrary design theme. I agree with what you say, but sometimes the result is not that bad. The AMG Pack W212 with this LCI looks much better IMO than the pre-LCI one, because it gives the car more presence (the pre-LCI AMG bumper looked too simple), and the same goes with the F10 and its M Pack front bumper. It´s a car with a bland front end that needs to be spiced with some angular lines to look powerful.

It might not be the most perfect design decision, but the results are not that bad.

I get what you're saying but I have to somewhat disagree as even though the M sport front bumper is a bit angular from the rest of the design, the front as a whole fits the general theme of the car. It still flows when you see it at all angles and doesn't "date itself" per se. I love contrasting elements, but there's a difference between contrast and just haphazard continuity, which IMO is what the new
E now suffers from due to an odd front that drastically lacks flow with the rest of the design idiom.

IMO big mistake going from those aggressive "AMG Twist" rocker panels to these plain units disguised to look more interesting by chrome inserts on the sides.

I know a lot of AMG buyers are gonna put black wrap right over that chrome, which actually might a pretty good look.

Is it CF in even the regular models? I'm pretty sure it's chrome (or aluminum for that matter) on them, hence the confusion.

I chuckle to myself when recalling just how appalled I was when the W212 was first presented some 11 years ago. Absolutely hideous, I thought. However...slowly...but...surely I began to warm to its' design and now find it an attractive car that remains to look fresh-even today. In fact, it's become my favorite E-Class.

There's just something very cool about that "edgy-wedgy" look:
