E-Class Official: Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate (S212)

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations. Produced since September 1953, the E-Class falls as a midrange in the Mercedes line-up, and has been marketed worldwide across five generations.
The wagon part - the rear end - looks very utilitarian, but I guess that is the point. On the other hand it doesn't change my opinion that Benz doesn't know how to do sexy when it comes to wagons the way Audi does.

Top Gear: Mind the cap

Yesterday we showed you a picture of the new E-Class Estate - one of Merc's most important cars of the year.

The budget is signed off, the car is ready and they've just spanked millions on a new advert - twisty roads, helicopter cams, mega driving shots, the full cheesy works.

Then some idiot removed the fuel cap.

Oops. So what happened to it?

Maybe they took it for a spin through Longleat before the shoot, and the cap is now in the hands of a thieving pack of lemurs.

Or maybe some rednecks nicked it, to make into a swanky catflap for their trailer park home.

M-B needs to really pay more attention and up the quality control for these marketing campaigns. That "Airbag" light during the W212 commercial a little while ago made headlines everywhere, and allowed people to do the whole "I knew M-B hasn't gotten their act straight, POS", etc. etc.

I doubt the car was delivered like that the fuel cap might have been damaged by the film crew , because accidents do happen , in 2001 on the shoot of the BMW E65 the driver was playing with iDrive and drove the car into a ditch sratching the front wing , so we had to shoot some segments with the same angle. And more recently on the 1er Cabrio in 2007 a curious Glasgow taxi drove into the rear quarter.

Because these shoots are on a specific timeline , especially in the run up to the IAA there is no time to get another car out to location so you have to make do with what you have and try and work around it.

Although you can get back to the studio and manipulate digitally it but on location you cannot do anything.

Not a bad looking Wagon. But that shot of the rear light closeup shows how un-clean, blocky, and non-flowing the lines and shapes are, W.T.F is wrong with M-B's designers? I'd hope that they CAN make an aggressive and sharp lined car while still retaining coherent and concise shapes and lines if they wanted to can't they?

AND they fuel filler door looks to be fitted very poorly, it's misaligned and sticking out at the bottom.... And it does not seem to be partially opened either.

I don't know anymore with M-B, it used to be a love-love thing, now it's a love/hate thing.

This is an E250 CDi with lots of AMG styling, inside and out. Looks great and I think I would take the T model over the sedan. This is really a true Mercedes wagon, in every way! Just like the good old W124. Sharp, edgy and very stylish.

There is a whole area of the Mercedes tradition connected with estate cars that the company's engineers and designers have had to digest and reinterpret in order to produce this new model.

New Mercedes E-Class estate now on sale

By David Wilkins, The Independent, UK

The estate version of Mercedes' latest E-Class has now gone on the market in the UK.

The car offers up to 1950 litres of space and has self-levelling rear suspension as standard. It is also notable for reviving a feature that has now all but disappeared from mainstream estate cars – a third row of rear-facing seats.

Prices start at £29,785 on the road for the petrol-engined E200 CGI, and the premium for each estate model over the equivalent E-Class saloon is £1,750. The new car is actually 4 per cent cheaper than its predecessor, an aggressive move on Mercedes' part, given that the company has also improved equipment levels; other importers such as Ford have been forced to push through significant price rises in the UK over the last year or so in an attempt to compensate for the impact of the strong Euro. In all, there are three diesel and four petrol engine options, and almost all benefit from Mercedes' BlueEFFICIENCY CO2 and fuel consumption reduction measures.

The top-of the-range model is the very fast E63 AMG version at £73,855.
