CLS (C257) [Official] Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class (C257)

The C257 Mercedes-Benz CLS is the third generation of the CLS range of four-door sedan, launched in 2018 as the successor to the Mercedes-Benz CLS (C218). Production: January 2018 – August 2023. Model years: 2019–2023.
I actually much prefer it when a car's design splits opinion than when it is either unanimously pretty or ugly. This car reminds me a bit of the E60...a little ugly in some ways but is very, very interesting to look at. Cars that are pretty from all angles, all the time are obviously triumphs in their own regard but I do like something more polarizing once in a while.

And as a few of us have already mentioned, it is great that MB finally has their own unique design identity. The A7 is much more heavy handed in terms of surfacing, whereas the CLS is quite a bit cleaner. I think the 6er GC will probably find itself somewhere in the middle--a few clean, purposeful lines.

Well, as I had hoped, there are some angles where the car is looking interesting.
But the rear is REALLY bad, nearly to say ugly.

I Think i love it.. amazing how you can go from hate to love in 24h.. It's unlike anything else on the road and so athletic and muscular but at the same time elegant.

Amazing

Yep I'm sold now. Now bring on the CLS53 with at least 450hp please. This is going to be a much better seller than the current car IMO.

At least now we know what the E450, GLE450, GLS450, S450 will all be carrying under their hoods next year. Such an exciting time. Dying to see what the C43 will become with the C-Class facelift. GLC43 also.

M

...And with a heavy heart, it is until now that the CLS held the crown of my favorite Mercedes Benz saloon.

I would go as far as saying that the new CLS is simply stunning and perfectly captures the new design idiom, only a few small problems like maybe the rear lights but otherwise it is superb..

Perhaps the most unflattering photograph so far.

The minimally sculptured slab-sided "tricycle effect" (the optical illusion that leaves the rear wheels appearing to have a smaller diameter than the front wheels. Also apparent on the C238 E-Class 2 doors) is glaringly evident.

I actually don't see that at all in this pic. It really bothers me in the C-class and E-class coupes from some angles.

GCF's favorite chief designer:joyful: giving us a walk-around

Looks like no pano roof for third consecutive generation. Unfortunate.

He actually describe the new grill as the predator face...

He had me at "this is car is an iconic design piece" & "the rear is almost the nicest part of the car". It's for the joe public and time to decide whether or not a design is iconic.

I get he is very proud and passionate about his work but, this is getting a bit too much.
