Which, in my book, is a good thing. Many classic designs were polarizing at introduction. As time passed, they became true classics. To not astray too much, but I do remember very vividly the uproar at the introduction of the C219. Many thought of it's design as being the beginning of the end of Mercedes-Benz design. And those who said: simply wow. In my opinion we've got here, with our new CLS, a future classic...It's been a long time since I've seen opinions on a car's design be so polarizing. Mercedes Benz is forging ahead with a new design direction - some may not like it - but there's no denying that it's entirely theirs. Watch this space for a raft of imitation.
Interior: well, I just can't get my head around Merc's double-tablet instrument panel. It's so flat and lacking in relief/depth. Maybe I need to experience it in real world motoring but to my mind it's really a bit two-dimensional, surface-level aesthetic. I believe the recessed instrument binnacles of the BMW and Audi are not only more practical (better shielded) but also nicer to look at.
