I would wait for real testing numbers. Mercedes' almost always perform better than their stated numbers.

Given they can get 476 hp out of the M139L, they can almost certainly get probably 600 hp out of th M256M.

Like RBR said, I wish they had pushed it that bit further and made it with 500 hp. Though no doubt tuners will to crazy with this as per usual.

Engine block components of M139 are different from M256. It is a pure AMG engine. Developed for high performance. It is impossible to get 600 hp from M256.

^Correct.
The cylinder pressure in the M139 4-banger is said to be 2320psi.
That surpasses the supercharged V8 powered 840hp Dodge Demon, which is said to be 1960psi. The engine block of the M139 is extremely rigid and most likely surpasses the M256.

They should change that then.

The M139, M256 and M176/7/8 all share the same modular engine architecture don't they?
Hand built AMG variant please.

The M256 is a Mercedes engine that is modified by AMG.
It is not engineered from the ground up by AMG.

Dreams come true. A wide body 53 with the I6.
I knew power is getting bumped to at least 450 PS which is more than enough. Now show us more colors and the cabrio, please.
If the pricing wasn't as outrageous I'd be on the list already. I did consider the E53 cabrio as it was the only 2 door vert on the market that can sit 4 adults in relative comfort and I expect this one to be no different but still not sure it will be worth M4 vert money if it's not priced higher even.

I understand. I just want them to take the basic M256 design and build a true proper AMG version of it.
Like like the M177 and 178 are AMG versions of the M176.

Stronger cylinder block, bigger turbos etc.
Also I'm pretty sure even the M256 could handle a pretty heavy tune to over 500 hp quite easily.
Just want the M256 family to be a better competitor to the B58/S58.
Same way the M177 competes with the S68.
The opportunity is there.

It looks really hot, love the widened wheel arches and the bonnet with bulges and vents. The power figures are disappointing though, this CLE 53 has the same engine outputs as the S500 (which is a non AMG badged luxury model). It has less power than a regular M3, they should have beefed up this engine to as least 500PS and 600nm torque, which it definitely can handle as Brabus have already obtained this figure with their version of the inline 6.

Definitely looks better than the old C63 coupe. It isn't an issue as to whether or not Mercedes can get 500 or 600hp out of the I6, it's a question of whether or not they want to spend the money to do so. Of course they can do it if they wanted to.

Possibly also cannibalising the 63. A 500-600hp Straight 6 petrol CLE53 would probably be almost as fast accelerating as a heavy Hybrid with 700hp, and would unquestionably be better through the corners.

The AMG CEO mentioned that markets like China have demand for the hybrid AMGs, which is whatever. But that being the case they should make a unique brand for them, rather than denigrating the 63 badge for the enthusiasts who have made the brand a success in the first place.

That way the ICE performance AMGs can co-exist with the Hybrid AMGs and serve different markets as per their taste.

You have your i6 AMG CLE53 with 450hp and CLE63 with lets say 550hp (which is absolutely possible with this engine, even if its not a ground-up AMG design) for the Western markets which demand the ICE-only powertrain.

Then you can have your AMG CLE 4c E-performance (as a hypothetical branding) for markets where they have no attachment to the V8 or ICE powertrains.

Though overall, I guarantee which one will sell worse.
