GT [Official] Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.
In detail it looks good…
Nice colour by the way.

The updated version is finally on the road here. Smoking hott car to me. The E Performance model is like 200K. This car comprehensively ran the CLS off the market and out of production.

They are/were both cars that should have been better.

The AMG would have sold in much better numbers were it in a slinkier sexier body. They got this coupe wrong.

Should make a dedicated (AMG only as with the 4-Door) AMG SUV and AMG SUV Coupe - that would sell like crazy. Now they are doing it but electric - not many will buy. Due the new strategy maybe ICE/hybrid iterrations are coming too?

With currents appearing to shift significantly in favour of multiple drivetrain options (ICE-Hybrid, Range-extended electric, electric only) for visually nearly identical models, I'm hoping that the sleek upcoming electric AMG 4 door GT will become a visual basis for a later PHEV or REEV variant. A replacement for the current X290, so to speak.

They can make it based on the W214, as the current one X290 is based on the W213. The W214 platform is ready to change into the 4 door

I wonder whether this is a feasible plan B option for AMG if the EV doesn't sell well.

The GT EV certainly has a long enough bonnet for an ICE motor to be shoved in there, but fundamentally the platform will be designed differently, so it'll never be quite as simple as shoving one in there and Bob's your uncle.
There probably won't be a transmission tunnel, or room for a gearbox etc.
Perhaps with their desire to make sure the EV and ICE cars share a common design language, they can take the general design, maybe some of the sheet metal and slide it on a modified W214 platform.

All of this remains to be seen, but I'd be honestly shocked if the engineers aren't thinking about this. If for no other reason than to placate the huge American market.
