This CLE AMG 53 should have been a normal CLE 450, without the AMG badge and all that Jazz. It would have been less conspicuous, less expensive (buying it and servicing it), Just a nice I6 cylinder coupé from Benz.
For the friends of AMG a CLE63 and everybody's happy.

These days having a 'normal' 6 pot instantly makes it special and sporty and AMG/M like
I fully agree with you BTW. I remember the days when you could buy a full on E63 AMG (or was it E55?) and spec it like an E500.

CLE 53 AMG looks gorgeous BTW, and the tech specs are mighty fine. Yeah, this is a desirable Benz.

I've been saying that the number on Benzes these days should represent power output rather than displacement.

Displacement is power output so what are you even saying?
What I mean is, a CLE300 doesn't have a 3 Litre engine.
So instead of just having the number be a meaningless representation of that particular model's positioning in the range, it should be the power output in PS/HP.

So, a CLE 300 = 300hp, CLE 450 = 450 hp and so on.

Yeah I understood what you said but it makes little sense.
Firstly, power output can vary from model year to model year and is never the same. And secondly, the number '300' still stands for a certain amount of power so there is little difference with before in the end.

Agree with this, considering the power level.
This model should have received the same setup and power delivery as the E53 sedan with its full 612hp offering. It would have been that much more appealing.

God, the Cab with its top down looks incredible in that red paint.

They already have a CLE 450 I6 model.

Wow this CLE53 cabrio in this red looks awesome, even better than the coupe in my opinion.

The big question, will you rather buy this CLE53 convertible or an SL43?

To be honest I would rather buy this.

I know. From a power output point of view, 450 hp would have been fitting for a 450. The current CLE 450 should be a CLE 350. Two I6 with a different power output, just like MB does with it’s diesel: S 350d and S 450d.
The real fireworks then for the AMG versions.

They’ve never done that before in this segment. I don’t see the point of that. If anything the CLE 53 could be a CLE 500 and the AMG model would be a 55 V8. The entry point needs to be a 4-cylinder to truly straddle the space from the two cars it’s replacing imo. That 350 model as should all 350s should be 300 hp by now.

That they've never done it before, doesn't mean they shouldn't. The 500 should be reserved for V8 engines, but I do realize there's a S500 with a I6 and that my opinion is old school by now.
Agreed on the 4 cylinder entry point.

Mercedes needs to give their models with 300 and 450 decent power boosts.

The 300 badged models has been at 245/258PS for at least 10 years now, they need to increase this to 300PS at least and the 400/450 badge was at 333PS in W213 and now at 381PS in the latest E450, which to be honest is not a big enough increase when the 63 AMG models now are 200PS more powerful than the previous gen models,
