GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) [Official] Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) is the first generation five-door variant of the AMG GT two-door sports car. Production: September 2018– Model years: 2019–
There were a few articles that stated that they used the E-Class wagon version of the platform because it was the strongest. Makes sense to me at the rear end of the structure vs the sedan. Not sure what the issue is here.

Many people here will be surprised by the sheer presence of this car. It's huge and don't drive passed you unnoticed like an E-Class or CLS.

Yes, the X290 exceeds the C257 CLS by some 60mm in length as well as width-or so I've read. An especially wide automobile at some 1950mm, not including rearview mirrors.

Could see in the flesh the read sample at the Paris Motor Show and in the flesh, it looks awesome ! I was not convinced in pictures but in the flesh, the outside shapes are superb and very sleek.
The being said, I have been disapointed by the interior of the exposed model : doesn't feel very luxurious nor sporty, to much black plastic (? or whatever else it is) in the (huge) central console that attracts fingerprints. Besides, for a car so large, rear space is narrow (no space for the legs if front seat is pushed fully back) and the trunk is a joke ! Form rather than function... It is not a rational purchase for sure when you have a E63S as alternative.
I'd take a Panamera over this, even with less performance.

The sheer presence of the car impresses. I think it has the Panamera beat in this regard, which is a big feat.

The car looks so much better now than the initial press photos or photos taken at the motor show.

Beautiful thing! And I just love that Pan Americana grill. The stance of the car makes it impossible not to just adore it!

There is a Benz essence of richness in the design that brings a feeling of 'want one' to mind.

Man, the new CLS looks like garbage next to the GT. And I could not have thought it more differently when they were initially introduced. Goes to show first impressions are often wrong.

Did you get to see them both at the same time? I’ve only seen the GT but not the CLS.

Unfortunately not. I was just referring to photos and videos in the internet, including from @benzblogger's Instagram/YouTube video above.

First, the GT sedan has changed how I feel about the rear fourth of cars in general. I no longer require a conventional trunk to "like" a design. Second, it has become clear the GT is not just a re-skinned E Class. For beginners, AMG is sparing nothing to make this dynamically superior. And how about this model coming with available 315-section rear tires?? I love AMG no longer shy with wheel and tire dimensions.

I no longer see this as a CLS twin (although for all intents and purposes, that's what it is). In my eyes, this now scans as a four-door GT coupe (which frankly now looks inadequate given the now-dated interior tech).

This model just really makes the CLS overall design look really weak. It is something I felt, honestly, since first seeing the CLS, which is why I felt a proper AMG version was needed to liven things up. Also, Mercedes did no favors to itself launching the A class before the CLS, because every time I see a CLS pic on the internet, I first check whether it isn't the new A class sedan. Tainted impression.

MBUSA is still fitting CLS' with tiny, garbage looking standard wheels. I saw a CLS53 the sometime back and it looked rather good with the new 20' rims, the spoiler, and the rear diffsuer treatment. For me CLS53 or bust with this generation.

@Yaz, there's a red one at MB Manhattan right now:

I don’t think the CLS is ugly but with that wheel it’s at a big disadvantage vs the full blown GT 63s. CLS53 is gorgeous imo. CLS 450 looks good with the right size rim. The AMG GT 63s needs the rear wing up to looks its best so....

Any word on customer response/orders on either car?

Having seen the CLS on the road and showrooms I find it a gorgeous car and would definitely not mind one but saying that and looking at the AMG GT..

The GT is something else the more I see this car it blows you away in that video with the CLS it shows the GT is a clear winner I know specs are not comparable but the GT is just wow has real wow factor look forward to see it in real.

@Mick Briesgau which are are you considering the GT or CLS ?

The GT 4 door @fortuner. Seeing the first official pics I thought of it as being an awfull, ugly poser car. But in real life, my friend, it’s such an impressive car. Immediately got those wanna have vibes...

Yeah more I see it it's amazing go for it mate..

So as a extra vehicle or goodbye S class.

Exciting news, Mick !

I must soon take the opportunity to view the new X290 "up close" at my friendly local M-B dealer. Several months ago, I caught a distant glimpse of a silver-metallic example in Hamburg city traffic (an Erprobungsfahrzeug, I suspect). Be it a brief encounter, it left me mighty impressed.

Would you be looking at the GT 43, GT 53...or a full-fat GT 63 monster ? Go for a glossy paint and those gorgeous 21" satin silver Y-spokes .
