Golf Official: Golf R

If its more fun to drive, then yes. FWD GTI is said to be more fun to drive than r32, and s3 said to be too clinical.

Yes I have heard that before too and I must admit I love driving my GTI :D:D:D:D

Still,
More fun to drive ? ....
If so this must be the case:

GTI: More fun when, Cornering, on dry tarmac, with no co-passangers.
R32: More fun when, dragrace, listening, bring your friends all day long.
and of course you can use it during the coldest winter.

Well well... :) Scrocco is still a scrocco fantastic machine love it! I have been behind the wheels of a 160 TSI in a total of about 4 hours...
sexy time!

England starting to get wetter and colder now. Somedays wheels are still spinning up in 3rd. Played with my friends a3 quattro tdi tuned to 250hp in the rain last night and on the corners and roundabouts he left me for dead. Once we hit the motorway though different story lol.

Wat to drive this and the rocco r.

Can anyone answer my question? Martin, Ben, others?

I'd really like to know why is this...

:t-cheers:

Cost and marketing?

Thought the rocco was always meant to be a cheaper than the golfs, and offer cheap driving fun. FWD is apparently more fun than the 4motion in the golfs so could be the same for the rocco?

Perhaps we will eventually see a rocco with 4wd and the 2.5 cylinder lump?

But I think the main reason is cost.

If that happens, that'll be my next daily driver... In that beautiful blue color.

:t-cheers:
Your not the only one. I need that sweet bellowing 5 cylinder sound in my life.

Lets hope the rocco r sells well so that VW make a more hardcore version!

I like both the Scirocco and the Golf R. In the metal the Scirocco is undeniably the more dramatic looking car despite the fact the VW actually pitches the Scirocco below Golf 6, model for model. The emphasis with Scirocco lies in dramatic looks and sporty feel with concessions being made in the quality and equipment levels department.

Golf 6 is the mainstay of the VW brand. It's classier, more grown up and more aloof in its driving demeanour [though no less capable] and is aimed at the more mature buyer. Similarly, it has to be more practical in order to accomodate a family with small kids. It's because of this upmarket positioning of the Golf that it earns the AWD drivetrain as opposed to the Scirocco R that makes do with the lighter, more playful 2WD setup which is in better keeping with the car's intended purpose.

Scirocco looks really weird (squashed or something) from some angles on the street. The Golf looks good from every angle.

My only problem with the latest Golf GTi is the fact that they have put one exhaust pipe on each side instead of two together on one side... much better on the R.

The dealer here has the new GTI on the lot and by chance one of them was left open, a misstep considering the dealership is closed on Sunday!

Anyway I want this car. The seats alone are worth the price of admission. The 2 they have are 5-doors loaded to the gilles with everything but navigation. Price you ask? 30K. I want a 3-door model please. My favorite small car for now. Have to see what Ford is going to do in January at Detroit as we'll finally get European style/design/quality Focus for 2011. If its anything like the Fiesta I drove this summer then they going to have a winner in the small car segment also. Time to change my signature. I'm seriously considering one.

I can't imagine what this Golf R will be like (and cost!) when it arrives here.

Awesome Marcus - 30K in USD. For a new, loaded GTI except Nav? Unbelievable! Is this including DSG which I'm sure you'd opt for? Directly converted that's R 225,000.00 for a GTI in South Africa. Unfortunately, a similarly turned out GTI here would cost in the region of R 350,000.00.

30K is in the region of what I spent on that demo WRX. For that money I would have aced the GTI without blinking. What a feel good car! What in-the-flesh image and good looks. What an interior. What an all rounder. What... [aw shut the f up now Martin. We get the picture]

Marcus, you can't go wrong. The GTI is such a complete product that it's even good enough for people who can afford a much pricier car.
