Golf Official: Golf R

Consider no one outside of VW have heard or driven this thing, I'd suggest not putting out your opinion as facts. :t-cheers:

Its got the same engine as my car, and the same drivetrain as my friends S3.

Its might have active suspension and a racier haldex setup, but ultimately its a rebadged S3. It will sound like all the other 2.0 TSI/TFSIs.....Diesel like on tickover and that is a fact.

PRESS RELEASE

World premiere 7: Golf R as most powerful Golf ever

Automotive passion has always had something to do with performance. However, Volkswagen is demonstrating – in the world premiere of the new 199 kW / 270 PS Golf R at the IAA – that fuel consumption values can be corrected downward even in the high-end sports car area. The highlight here: While in the now retired Golf R32 (184 kW / 250 PS), 10.7 litres of fuel was processed by the injection system every 100 kilometres, on the new Golf R – thanks to a boosted high-tech TSI – the figure is just 8.5 litres, which is 2.2 litres or 21 percent less! The all-wheel drive Golf R (350 Newton-meter torque between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm) sprints to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds (Golf R DSG: 5.5 seconds) and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Two of the many identifying visual features of this exceptional Golf conceptualised by Volkswagen Individual: newly developed LED taillights and LED daytime running lights. The Golf R can be ordered in Germany starting at the end of this year.

Makes me want to sell my GTI (agian) and buy a MK6 and then purchase full R styling :D

I see quite a few S3 Sportbacks on the roads these days [what recession?] and they still look fantastic. A very classy, upmarket ride with peerless interior quality in its segment.

That said, I'd go for the Golf R. It may lack the cachet of the Audi badge but I reckon it's going to look absolutely sick on the road. It is the newer design after all and it's a great example of how a Golf can be subtly enhanced with the right kind of go-faster bits without looking overdone but still presenting an image of restrained aggression.

Like it a lot even with it being an S3 underneath.

Hopefully it will be a bit more raw than the S3!

Im still waiting on a golf to feature the 2.5 5cyl turbo, thats the engine I want under my bonnet in a rocco or a golf.

Around a track, I think the Golf R will be slower than a Focus RS, a fraction slower, though.

Given the choice of the Golf R vs the Focus RS, I'd go for the discreetly flash and more practical VW, because the Ford looks über chav and it's only available with 3 doors; Why can't manufacturers make more 5-door hot hatches?
