We are a little late to the party. Anyway, congrats to the Mustang for reaching 50.

As Ford celebrates the Mustang's 50th anniversary since its debut at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, the iconic pony car has reenacted one of its most dramatic performances: Parking on top of the Empire State Building.
Nearly 50 years ago when the original Mustang was the hottest new car on the market, Ford displayed a 1966 Mustang convertible on the 86th floor observation deck of the Empire State Building — the only car ever to reach that location — until today.
In addition to amazing views of Manhattan, visitors to the Empire State Building observation deck on April 16 and 17 will also see a bright yellow 2015 Mustang convertible.
On Wednesday morning, Bill Ford, Executive Chairman, Ford Motor Company and Anthony E. Malkin, Empire State Realty Trust Chairman, President and CEO were both on the observation deck of the Empire State Building to celebrate one of Ford’s most popular cars.
Despite all the innovation and new technology since the Mustang’s first visit to the Empire State Building, Ford engineers and partner DST Industries had to resort to old-school techniques to return the Mustang to the Manhattan skyline. They cut it up into pieces and took it up the elevator.
“The deck is too high to reach with a portable crane from the street, and the spire that towers more than 400 feet above that narrow deck makes helicopter delivery impossible,” explained George Samulski, manager, Ford North America design fabrication.
It took months of planning to work out the logistics for taking the new Mustang up the elevators to the observation level, but the crew only had six hours to reassemble the car. The observation deck doesn’t close until 2 a.m. and reopens at 8 a.m. In addition, that evening they also had to deal with late spring snow and gusty winds.
It was still chilly, but the sun was out when Wednesday morning visitors to the Empire State Building were greeted by a bright yellow 2015 Mustang
