Mustang Ford Mustang GTD And GTD Competition

Max Verstappen at the wheel would have been enough for a new record. Maybe next year when Ford is RB engine supplier.
I think, Ford can use Verstappen as driver, if they want it like in the Chris Harris video or others. You can see Red Bull related drivers driving or testing Ford cars now.

Those would be incredible lap times... if the tires didn't looks like slicks.

Does anybody recognize these?

I am curious when the first US YouTuber will put a VW V8 TDI into this, because here in Europe everyone thinks it’s a diesel powered Mustang.

Bit strange to offer GTD Competition as a road legal model, yet only announce lap time done with slicks. 🤔
This makes me think it was barely any faster than standard GTD when they tested it with the same Cup 2 R tires.

Of course the fanboys are presently ignoring any such nuance and making comment sections insufferable with their smug takes.

Having seen Ford fans claim this car used the same Cup 2 R semi-slick (just because the promo video showed a few frames with the sidewall), I ran some OptimumLap simulations to give you an idea of what the stats would have to be like...

GTD on Cup 2 R (µ1.235) - 6:41 lap
65 kg weight reduction
+25% horsepower (1,017 PS at clutch)
+25% downforce (Cl: 1.05 / 877 kg at 250 kph)
^ ignoring that this likely exceeds the maximum tire load the car was engineered around, as well as the cooling requirements

Now contrast that with what I think Ford did, and tell me which is more likely:

GTD on slicks (µ1.30) - 6:41 lap
65 kg weight reduction
+2% horsepower (830 PS at clutch)
+7% downforce (Cl: 0.90 / 705 kg at 250 kph)

I've also seen people bring up this DOT approved street-legal slick tire Ford supposedly used. But to me, that's almost as delusional as the Cup 2 R theory. Why go through the trouble of developing a new tire for a limited edition of a limited edition of a car?
Just don't say anything and let the fans come up with their own angles on how the car still qualifies as a production vehicle. A little obfuscation is a small price to pay to claim victory over those arrogant Germans, even for a moment.

1000hp doesn’t sound unreasonable,

25% more downforce sounds indeed crazy, may be they were able to reduce the weight about 100kg.

may be they were able to reduce the weight about 100kg.

Reducing it 3 kg would have been worth a tab on the back and a job well done. 100 kg is possible in an alternate universe perhaps. The base car already is as lean as they can possibly make it, as it retains the structural chassis of the base S650 Mustang. Everything else is either CFRP, magnesium or quite frankly already deleted.

So.... no.

Focusing on Döttinger Höhe

GTD Competition enters the straight at higher speed, but from then on, the two seem to be accelerating at a similar rate... up to a point.
The difference in top-end is due to gearing. Standard GTD upshifts into 6th gear at 280 kph (and kind of dies there) while GTD Competition does so at about 307 kph!

So much for the 1,000 hp theory.
