Mustang [Official] Ford Mustang GTD

The same people who order a 911 GT3 Touring???
GT3 Touring is more like a Mustang Dark Horse in this comparison. The point would have been better had you chosen 911 S/T instead.

I would argue this. 911 S/T, while sharing many parts with the RS, was developed with road use in mind, a clear contrast to the hardcore track focused GT3 RS.
Mustang GTD, on the other hand, is an obvious counterpart to the GT3 RS. Everything on that car has very strong track focus. Take away the dive planes and DRS, and you lose a big part of the performance. And for what reason? The car still has crazy suspension, transaxle and weight saving. It doesn't suddenly become a better road car either. The philosophy doesn't change, the car is just less capable and desirable.

Imagine Porsche taking DRS away from the GT3 RS. It would be a ridiculous move. Weissach pack only adds bits that have negligible impact on track performance. Ford should have left the Performance pack to magnesium wheels and other trinkets, instead of going full retard like this.

You're comparing apples to oranges. The GTD pretty much is a standalone unique product, and the price seems to reflect that. You can have it in two flavours.
The 911 is a whole different proposition with a wide range of models based off the same car..

You can have it in two flavours.
How are the flavors different then? 911 S/T is totally different flavor to GT3 RS. But fully loaded GTD and base GTD are the same car with the same philosophy, expect one is less capable.

But they still are a 911 beneath. The GTD is radically different from a normal Mustang right?

Depends on your criteria. It does start as an ordinary Mustang shell and then is modified at Multimatic. Mostly at the rear end, to accommodate the transaxle, trans cooler and inboard suspension, but also adding upper wishbones to the front.

Yeah that's fair enough. I just specced a GT3 RS for over 500k here, so in that sense the GTD isn't that expensive compared to what it will compete with (namely the GT2 RS which will be a whole lot more expensive than the GT3 RS)......

I have no issue with GTD being as expensive as it is, given how big the demand for it seems to be.
I did listen to a podcast about the car (it might have been with the Ford CEO), where it was said the bean-counters wanted to make GTD less special. If those people were given the reigns, the car would now have regular wide body kit without the vented wheel wells, just because of cheaper production. So with that in mind, I'm happy the enthusiasts at Ford won, despite the much higher cost.

The only thing that irks me is the existence of the performance pack (or rather the less special base spec).

Those bean counters should go on internship with the BMW bean counters in Munich so they can learn something, make a first and stupefy the next GTD to save some short term bucks.

Are you irked that Porsche's GT models also have the Weissach Pack as an option?? Or that the GT3 is the less special base version of the GT3 RS, which is the less special version of the GT3 RS with Wiessach Pack. Or you could say the GT3 RS Wiessach is the less special version of the GT2 RS, and the GT2 RS is the less special version of the GT2 RS MR????

I already covered that angle in my previous post:

Weissach pack on GT3 RS doesn't fundamentally change the car's performance, unlike removing DRS (and some of the downforce potential).
I think mine is a reasonable position to have. Not sure why you're bringing up all these various Porsche models as if that's some sort of gotcha moment.
