Portofino [2017-2023] [Official] Ferrari Portofino - California T successor

The Ferrari Portofino (Type F164) is a grand touring sports car. It is a two-door 2+2 hard top convertible, with a 3.9 L twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine and a 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) time of 3.5 seconds. The car is named after the village of Portofino on the Italian Riviera and succeeds the company's previous V8 grand tourer, the California T. The car was unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 2020 Ferrari Roma coupe is based on the Portofino. A convertible version of the Roma was unveiled in 2023 to replace the Portofino.
Much better looking. If I was trying to finagle my way on a list for a special edition Ferrari, I wouldn't feel conscious about driving this in order to ingratiate myself with my local dealer and Ferrari brass. Which is a BS process, but if you got the means and the desire, then who am I to say that Ferrari's business practice of fleecing its buyers is kind of disgusting? I am sure there's some aero reason for that gap on the bottom of the rear windshield, but it's annoying the sh** out of me. The interior of this gen's Ferraris (Porto, GT4, 812) seem a little lower-rent compared to its respective predeccesors. Yeah, it has modern a infortainment system but something about that steering wheel and the overall look of the dash that doesn't seem right the more I look at it.

Wish everyone would do the same... with out the endless teasers.

Indeed. I don't remember seeing a single spy shot, only the Autobild renders.

I really like how it looks, erm.. manly now.

I do think it still suffers from what I call Folding hardtop syndrome; the tall rear end. Much less so than gen 1, but it's still noticeable.

is this using the new modular platform or is this still on the California platform?

New modular platform according to Ferrari's press release.

Indeed; from Ferrari:
The Ferrari Portofino’s all-new chassis features a significant weight saving over the California T it replaces. Thanks to the extensive use of modern production technologies, all the chassis and body-in-white components have been redesigned with a consequent reduction in weight despite an increase in torsional rigidity.

This is the first new model for the next generation, as the rest of the lineup are facelifts. Apparently the Portofino is moving upmarket, because the next introduction will be the biturbo V6 Dino successor as the entry-level offering. It'll preimere at Geneva next year.

I feel like the some of the interior pieces and the roof mechanism have been carried over from the California.

Is it the new trend to show the shittiest possible ulta cgied press photos for a reveal ?

Nah fam, they been doing it to maximise shareholder wealth for years

Although it's not official I believe you as Sergio Marchionne has hinted that Ferrari are mulling a Dino. There's certainly a gap for it in the lineup as the California/Fortofino, which is a grand tourer, isn't a genuine cheaper alternative to the 488 alternative the way the R8 and Mclaren 570 are.

What about Maser, Alfa and maybe even Dodge (Viper successor) on this new aluminium spaceframe platform?

One thing is interesting. Although 488 GTB is much more expensive compared to Cali T sales numbers for Cali or Cali T are inferior. I pressume that Dino (and that's not Ferrari, it's a Dino brand) could end with 488 GTB successor layout but with V6 at the same price level as Portofino.

The Dino needs to make good money which makes platform sharing with the 488 very logical. Could a tuned version of the 3L V6 in the Levante S do the trick or is there a new V6 in development?

Just think where is the most powerful V6 in the FCA stable and is 100% Italian and is directly related to Cali T, Portofino, GTC4 Lusso T engine(s)? It's not Maserati and it's not V6 60°.

The Viper is done. After getting a second chance, FCA conceded it was a commercial failure and stopped production this month.

There will definitely be some type of Viper successor halo car (if not direct replacement) in the future. The current one was hamstrung by its carryover platform; they literally couldn't fit any other existing powertrains or different transmissions in its current form.
