Z Series [Official] BMW Z4 (G29)

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
And somehow the Z4, the car the less usefull by excellence, but surely the most enjoyable to drive will be the last of it's kind. This makes it even more desirable. Will the M40i remain the top of the line? Or last year rumor of a possible Full M will come true? Does the S58 fit in the bay? This model has been in my mind for a long time now, the death of ICE car, make me think twice if it is worth to make the move.

Here’s a link to the official BMW Press Release.

No iDrive 8 or screen upgrade or on screen hvac controls. Not really a facelift. Clearly a low(no) priority model that’s now left to die.

Zero reason to buy a 2023 model over a 2020.

Pity, because it's beautifully built; certainly has a better cabin and roof mechanism than 718. Drives well too.

BMW could have done more to improve it's appeal by releasing an M variant and maybe adding slightly wider fender. Instead, they allowed it to remain in the shadows of the M2 Comp, M135i xdrive, Supra and M240i xDrive.

And when it would have had iDrive 8 you would have said that iDrive 7 is better like the current trend here on GCF.
The Z4 is doing really well. Your cynical approach is uncalled for.

BMW calls it a model year update in the press release, so it's not even a full facelift. Even though they changed a few things.

I don't mind iDrive 7. However newness is important for consumer products. Hence why manufacturers sometimes make questionable cosmetic changes mid-life. The changes aren't always improvements but a big selling point as they make cars looks newer.

an M variant would definitely be appealing.
A hard top M variant would have been cool. However BMW and Toyota must have agreed scope of their cooperation and an M or coupe Z4 wouldn't have allowed the Supra sufficient breathing space.

I recently realized that in the LCI the kidneys are bigger, very subtly but it shows

This car is dope! Initially on release I wasn't sure ... after seeing (only few) in the wild, I do like it a lot. From a technical standpoint the G29 is a marvel. The top of the line Z4M40i isn't that far off a real ///M. Courtesy of such a good base the G29 provides, the LSD it comes with, its comparably lightness ... and obviouly this B58 gem! I was drawn to this thread (popping up because of @dalab s posting) since coincidently I had a talk with a colleague today, who is thinking about buying one the last two years. Today I encouraged him the 10th time or so after seeing the refresh advertised by BMW. We both agreed, that this would be a last call/chance for such a delicious roadster with such a delicious ICE! Unfortunately no manual option for EU/Germany :(
Maybe he will get/buy one for summer season 2024. If so: Bet on it, that I will lend me this thing for a weekend!

It still makes little sense to me, especially in this era of M3 Tourings and XMs, that there is no 'pure' Z4 M. It was their ****ing GT3 car for years with the E89 and still we didn't get one...

Yes.
However, the Supra version is definitely the one to get with RWD + manual ;)

I wonder whether BMW will replace it with an BEV roadster like Porsche will do the 718.

A Roadster with range anxiety on abandoned back roads.......hmmmmm....exciting

The grills are exactly the same size, for them to have gotten bigger they would have had to change the bumper.
You're right, I ate the optical illusion of the design (well done by the way)

"The grilles now have a new hexagonal pattern, which makes them look bigger while in fact, the size hasn’t changed"
