M5 [Official] BMW M5 (F10)

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

Wow it would be fantastic if they could have used that 580hp V10 engine with some KERS system in the F10 M5![/QUOTE]

If you remember there was a statement from BMW Motorsport about BMW M already adopting a KERS system in a Roadcar for testing. It was always touch and go for the F10 M. But Dr. Segler did not think it was ready for this M5 but before their Departures they were fine tuning KERS in a vehicle with a lighter chassis. So I would expect a progressive variation of KERS in a future vehicle, and given the status I would bet M5 is that vehicle.

This is what my M5 would look like

BMW M5 Pure Metal Edition unveiled with 600 PS
BMW has introduced the new M5 Pure Metal Edition in South Africa.

Designed to be the ultimate sports sedan, the Pure Metal Edition features a BMW Individual Pure Metal Silver Metallic exterior with 20-inch M double spoke alloy wheels.

Moving onto the cabin, drivers will find black Merino leather sport seats with Silverstone contrast stitching. The special edition also has Dark Aluminum Trace trim and an individually-numbered plaque with "PURE METAL M5" badging.

A 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine resides under the hood and produces 600 PS (441 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 305 km/h (189 mph).

Speaking of performance, the car also has the Competition and M Driver’s packages. There's also a sportier suspension, an Active M Differential and M Carbon Ceramic Brakes.

Production will be limited to 20 units and pricing starts at R 1,948,000 (€130,726 / $145,281).

Is this limited edition M5 with 600PS only available in South Africa? Is this the only edition except for the 30th jahre edition that uses the 600PS engine?

M6 with Compeition package deliever 600 hp.

...not sure if the M5 gets the same treatment.

EDIT: checking the german M configurator this 600 hp competition package is only availble for the M6. Now when Audi relese their RS6 with 605 hp, bmw might change their mind about M5 for the rest of the world?

Aged, yes. But still quite potent. Nigh on 300 km/h at Auto's testing facility (I cannot help but wonder how they got past the car's 250 km/h speed limiter).

Hey guys! I don't know if this has been posted here before, but I found this at forocoches.com

Thanks for the test post @DataHunter is this for the standard 560PS (412kw) M5 or for the Competition 575PS (423kW) or for the 30 jare 600PS (441kw) versions?

The 300km/h top speed is due to it been a performance pack version which is supposed to have a top speed of 305km/h. I think if the car was allowed to achieve its true top speed without any limiter, we could be looking at 330km/h at least.

EXCLUSIVE: BMW F10 M5 Special Edition coming later this year

According to our sources, BMW is preparing a limited edition F10 M5 which will be launched before the end of production. The current F10 M5 will be phased out at the end of this year to prepare for the new F90 M5 in 2017.

BMW has plans for around 100 units and some special colors are likely to be offered as well. The limited edition M5 will sport a series of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastics) components for a more aggressive and dynamic look.

No official details on the power output, but our sources hinted at the same powermill as the 30 Jahre Edition M5.

The power output is likely to be raised to 600 horsepower and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The standard sprint to 62 mph will then be around 3.9 seconds.

No word on pricing yet or worldwide availability, but we expect to learn more in the next few weeks.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
