M5 [Official] BMW M5 (F10)

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M
Beautiful.

I wonder if they've managed to sharpen the chassis sufficiently. Look forward to the comparisons. I think BMW M will have had their heart set on class leadership after the lacklustre reviews of the original.

No word on the torque numbers for the CP in this thread... Do I really have to go and look elsewhere? :D

Edit, I did go looking elsewhere... Max torque of 680 Nm remains unchanged. It's sustained for ever so slightly longer in the rev range to 6000 rpm. This is how the number of 423 kW is achieved. So for all that extra dosh, you get a sharper handling, quicker stopping and 2.5% more powerful M5 with no better mid-range tractability.

Assuming you pay extra for the ceramic brakes on TOP of the competition package.

I want the 15 hp extra along with all the improvements.

Congratulations didn't know you were buying one. Joking aside possibly driven back to back you might be able to feel the difference but I serious doubt if you were handed the keys on either with or without the power boost you'd struggle to tell. Frankly its the other things that might be more beneficial.

P.S.
Does anyone know whether these rims are part of the competition package or just optional.

Why? To hear the music?

Because you can barely hear the exhaust. Strange that BMW would overdub lots of music rather than promote the Competition Package and emphasise the better sound coming from the pipes that you get with it.

Does anybody in the marketing department have the slightest interest in cars?

Because you can barely hear the exhaust. Strange as this Competition Package is supposed to include a louder exhaust.

In future please do not reply to my posts. I really can't be bothered to show individuals the obvious.

And I'd love to be able to tell you to stop using this forum as your FREE marketing channel, but I can't, as everybody has the right to an opinion and to post what they like, within reason.

Would you be happier if all I replied with was Positive comments? Welcome to the world outside of BMW CM.

It's a perfectly valid point. I did exactly as you instructed, hoping to hear the new exhaust note you get with the Competition Package.....

"The further enhanced high-performance profile of the engine, chassis and sound experience courtesy of the Competition Package......"

Only to find lots of music and no indication of what the new exhaust sounds like.
Does anybody think I am being unreasonable?

Nice attitude by the way.

Still doesn't sound anywhere near as special as a BMW M car ought to... let alone an M5.

No. That's why I was particularly keen to hear if the sound "enhancements" you get with the Competition Package made a difference.

For the sound enhancements you yet have to add another +5K to get an M badged Akrapovic exhaust. It is not included in the Competition Package but is available through BMW M Performance Accessories.

Another strange thing about that video is the quality of the road. It is severely cracked and covered in large stones, not exactly the kind of road I was thinking that the new 20 inch rims, lowered suspension, stiffer bushes and super hard damper settings would be useful on. I wouldn't even use the existing "sport plus" settings with 20 inch rims on that crappy road.

Unless you have a smooth track, this new set up is not useful.

f10 m5 is a strange car, looks exactly like m5 should, but drives nothing like that

Haven't driven the latest one but speaking to ones that owned the last one every one of them say it now drives with the kind of refinement one would expect a large executive sports saloon should and in their opinion that's its biggest improvement.

I have and while what you say is true, I was quite surprised with feel of the car in it's most hardcore settings. In a good way.

I don't know what the roads are like where you live (?), but I wouldn't drive the M5 much in anything but Sport+. With 20" as I have never even tried the 19" rims. It's comfortable enough for my liking :D
Then again, our roads here kick major a$$ compared to most other countries in the world ;) And on crappy roads, the comfort settings do indeed work wonderfully!

Does anybody know how much the Pack costs?

€9000 in Germany.

This is how the car sound like with performance exhaust that comes with competition package.

Don't get caught by BMW Decietful Marketing. M Performance exhaust does not come with Competition Package. It is the normal exhaust, "sports" in comparision to 550i, that just comes with dark tips instead of the usual ones.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
