M5 [Official] BMW M5 (F10)

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M
That is not true, unless you're driving below 1500rpm and in comfort settings?

Yeah very true, you really need to have a light foot to not break traction when damp but we had a run of good dry weather up here in the north and I've been able to lean on the throttle a bit more than usual, I must say this thing is a beast it's still all to easy to make it break traction if you're ham-fisted with the throttle but I can now see why this thing could be a real hoot in warmer clims.

Video of an M5 breaking traction in 4th and 5th on a straight dry road...

^WHAT do I see here an M5 having traction problems tell me it isn't so... oh wait a minute I've hear that mention before but can't recall the chap's name. :D

I don't care what anyone says this thing has more power than one can possibly use but the way it gathers speed does make you giggle though.

Why the obsession with traction here? Even my little car have traction issues sometimes..

The post above was a little bit of a joke but on a more serious note you can't compare your 'traction issues' to that of the M5, after a little chirp changing into second your car is good to go but the M5 is a whole different ball game entirely and that's only in the dry.

Yes my car doesnt make 240km/h and Im not comparing, just saying.... but if you're afraid of traction get another car?
I'ts a +500 hp car with RWD, I mean what did you expect. Nah, stop acting like its death trap you guys are driving.

Who said they were afraid of traction? Who said they expected something different? Who acted like it was a death trap? Or are these just "straw man" arguments?

PS. Have you driven an F10 M5 at full throttle?

In the wet, in 1st and 2nd gear it is an issue, from 3rd gear on you will be faster than an RS6.

Many times. And with full throttle I mean full throttle. Like kick down for 10 minutes straight. And every possible version of in-between acceleration, at every possible speed.

Its not about what I've done or not, I just saying this thread is a little too much about traction. Talking about things thats obvious. To me it sounds like you guys find traction to be problem or what else Im I suppose to think.

Firstly it isn't mine it's the brother's car and secondly I'm not afraid of it to the extent that I wouldn't drive it only that I know how easy it could bite back so have huge respect for it and drive it accordingly.

Next the expectations... having had the M3 I knew that traction was always going to be an issue trying to use the all of it especially since it has almost double the M3's amount of torque and at far lower revs but even then the easy with which it breaks traction is quite shock, for example leaning on the throttle in the dry and hit a slight bump that feels like nothing from the driver's seat can have the tail do a slight side step to remind you that the car is saying 'I will bite given half a chance'. Does this mean it's more of a death trap than something else... well that depends on how big of a loon you want to be, I'm of the opinion that you can kill yourself in any car and have lost too many friends when younger as proof but to drive this thing quickly you need to have your wits about.

All I can suggest is go drive one, give it the beans and then come back and tell me what you think. lol

We weren't talking about Grand Turismo or Forza Motorsport. :D

I have had my time with M5 E39, M5 E60 and other 400-500 hp cars. I don't feel the need to go drive the new M5, same old, one big heavy luxury limo with lots of power. No different than other fast cars with RWD. And Im not denying the M5 to have traction issues so thats not the problem here. And if I feel the need to have a speed rush, I have my motorcycle for that. I'm just saying traction take too much space in this thread.

PS intresting what you said about bump. I have the same issue with my ST when full throttle and the road gets uneven. Do have respect but the car isn't going to kill just like that. Have some faith.

Anyway, I have no more to say because I've already said what I think. Maybe I'm over reacting...

BMW M5 Nurburgring Taxi crashes once again after unsuccessful drift attempt

Oversteered at Brünnchen
The BMW M5 Nürburgring Taxi has been involved in yet another accident while at work.

Back in December last year we saw the M5 'Ring taxi totaled after a heavy crash while approaching the Hohe Acht turn and now a similar car was damaged after an unsuccessful drift attempt. The high-performance sedan oversteered out of Brünnchen and collided with the right-side fence between Brünnchenn and Eiskurve.

As you can see, the crash is much less severe compared to the previous one so this M5 Nürburgring Taxi will be back in shape in no time. The track was closed for a little over an hour following the crash and the cars on the circuit were escorted out by a second taxi. According to BridgeToGantry, a video with the crash will be uploaded tonight and will be added to the article.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
