M2 [Official] BMW M2 Competition

The BMW M2 is a high-performance version of the BMW 2 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. As the 2 Series replaced the 1 Series coupé and convertible models, the first-generation M2 was marketed as the most basic M model in the range. Official website: BMW M
So just for clarification, is the regular M2 still available, or is this now the only M2? If it's the former, then this is one heck of a Competition Package!

No. It's the M2 Competition available for now.
The current M2 is another victim of the Evil InterEUlactic Empire in regards to emissions legislation, hence why the new Engine and upgrade.
And why the M3 is now dead.

Stunning color. I love the M2 and the U.S. market is only getting this variant. No more regular M2 in the U.S. once this one arrives.

Is that the new silver paint?

Is the new silver a metallic?

Yes, Hockenheim Silver.

I believe NO market is getting the regular M2 now.

Am I missing something? I hear only from BMW for discontinued models, because of the particulate filter but nothing from AUDI and MB. Are they going to discontinue some models or they are better prepared for this transition?

Why is the M3 dead and the M4 not? Why would they introduce this new M2 and not update the M3 so that it remains legal?

Fist thing to pop to mind is the GT3 RS; it'll receive a modified fuel system from September to comply with the crazy emission regulations.

The M3 was scheduled to end production this Summer to prepare for production of the new G20 3er.
Since this issue came to light, they felt it was appropriate to end production sooner because the cost does not justify the limited sales until EOP. An all new M3 Is scheduled to launch in 2019.

The M4 and M2 have longer life cycles therefore the cost in fitting the particle filter is entirely feasible.
If you read the statement and the future of the M line with its four-level series then you know why M4 cannot die yet.

The 750/M760Li is in a similar situation. It is due to receive the new V8 and V12 engine upgrades for its Life Cycle Impulse in 2019.
Therefore again not completely justified to swap over yet when a new model is less than twelve months away.

Yip, my mind is made up. The uni-grill must go; it's not an improvement and, hopefully, a flash in the pan. Some things just don't need to be changed as the cachet and recognition they hold outweigh the need for freshness. Bring back the kidneys (plural) - preferably with a colour-coded strip of paint between them.

I am also still the same trying to accept the M2's Grille. It is more afterthought compared to the Grille on The 8.
It's not love at first sight unfortunately.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
