iX [Official] BMW iX (i20) [2021-

The BMW iX is a battery-electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by the German automobile manufacturer BMW. It was unveiled in concept form as the Vision iNext at the 2018 LA Auto Show, and then in its production form in November 2020. The iX is BMW's second fully electric vehicle after the i3 in 2013, and the fourth BMW i sub-brand model.
For clarity, the iX is no oil painting. But, those (20") aero wheels suit it.

The point not to be lost, in subjective looks, is the iX is a quiet landmine in the world of EV. Part of why it's attacked so fiercely, is to distract from its technical, overall achievement, with Tesla fans very worried, as it explodes the Tesla myth - 'legacy makers cannot do what Tesla can'. BMW can, and did a decade ago, with the i3, and has had the leadership for the last 3 years or so to unleash its engineering potency fully in EV.

People are impressed, and sales are and will be through the roof.

After seeing my neighbor iX many times already I've got used to it, overall looks fine but grill design is childish. My Ioniq 5 order has been cancelled and think getting an iX just price isn't right yet.
Have you considered an EV X3? Or is the car too small and lacks the range that you need?

For interest sake I looked at the iX configurator on the German BMW site and they have the basic spec iX shown, a IX 40 for 84K Euros and it looks absolutely dog ugly lol. Would there be anyone who would buy this basic spec? Although the interior in basic spec with chocolate brown actually looks good.

Apart from the question if I would buy it, I'm baffled by the prices of these kind of EV nowadays; € 84.000 for a naked iX...! By the way, that goes for all EV from all brands.

Saw my first one, on friday. Bmw can't be forgiven. What an atrocity!!!!!
I really find the current Audis and Mercedes ungainly (most AMG going into total vulgarity), but Bmw is playing in another level of uglyness.

Really sad, for a brand with such a strong heritage of well designed cars.

- obviously out of control - or in control by AI/Skynet.

Who in the hell wants self-driving? A solution in search of a problem. We know Big Money wants to stop paying truck drivers $25/hr or more, I get that - mean scum always look for a way to make more money - but why would you want to be not driving on a beautiful summer's day out in the country - what's the point. I get level 2/3 on autobahn and similar - highly controlled, often tedious environments, but not roads like that.

BMW deserves to have the legs cut from under it, just as Tesla should have had for the last umpteen years. Zipse should resign and be held responsible for culpable homicide. Driving is fun, or used to be. This insanity of making humans conform to digital 'reality' has to stop.

Not 'self driving' apparently.

BERLIN, Aug 16 (Reuters) - A fatal crash involving four vehicles on a German highway did not involve a self-driving car, BMW (BMWG.DE) said on Tuesday, refuting a police statement that had questioned whether the driver had been actively steering the vehicle at the time.

A fully electric BMW iX car veered onto the opposite lane of the B28 federal road near the south-western town of Roemerstein on Monday, crashing into two other vehicles and indirectly causing another collision, police said in a statement.

A 33-year-old woman was killed and nine other people, including the 43-year-old driver of the BMW and his 18-month-old passenger, were seriously injured.

Traffic police have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident, which police said involved an autonomous test vehicle.

BMW confirmed that the crash had involved one of its models but said the car in question had no self-driving capabilities.

The vehicle is equipped with Level 2 driver assistance systems, in which case "the driver always remains responsible", a spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Such systems can brake automatically, accelerate and, unlike Level 1 systems, take over steering, according to BMW's website.

The carmaker said it was in close contact with the authorities to establish the exact circumstances of the crash.

It's almost as if the iX was actively seeking the cars, rather than avoidance. Flipping heck.

My guess would be this 'artificial "intelligence"' was out-smarted by that thing known as the Sun:

- either the sun directly opposite, 'blinding' it, or away from the sun, going from high contrast brightness to forested shade darkness. BMW has thrown their driver under the bus - saying he/she has the responsibility, for the control of the car - nice going BMW - PR dept., board of directors and Zipse. none of them want to lose their jobs or go to jail:

'Der Autobauer widersprach den Polizeiinformationen später, beim betroffenen Fahrzeug bleibe grundsätzlich immer der Lenker in der Verantwortung.'

Not 'self driving' apparently.
- so what was it testing - a nice jaunt around the countryside?:

- a new derivative of the iX? Seems doubtful.

The Level 2 thing seems dubious. Is BMW saying he/she careered through 3 separate collisions without waking up? Must have been a heavy night.

Why didn't the car do crash avoidance. Did 4 separate drivers, on the same road, one after another, in the space of just seconds, all make terrible driving mistakes, or death wishes? The odds would be in the trillions.

The first bang should have alerted the BMW driver, even if he was sleeping, or playing with his phone. The following 2 collisions make no sense. Zipse will be sweating bullets tonight.
