The F10 520d has 184 hp too, so it's not new.
But an I6 has very different characteristics compared to an I4, so even with the same power they can supplement eachother...

The 272 hp 3.0 NA engine is probably gone because of the emmissions???

You be really gone because of the emmissions…so maybe the new 23i engine will also come with the facelifted E92/E93!! And you're right about the character. That's why Daimler brings the E 250 CDI and E 300 CDI to the E-Class. Same power but one with 4 and the other with 6 cylinders.

Same for BMW with the engine in the x23d and x25d. I'd pick the x23d.

BTW, Ree, did you know a x20d engine with High Performance has like 5 hp less than the x23d. I'm not exactly sure, but it's somewhere around 198 hp. Pretty sick...

I think the E92 is a beautiful car, indeed! I like it a lot. In fact, its one of the best looking Beemers out there now...

BUT, unfortunately, its in the same time, as one of the most beautiful design cars out there is kickin ass, the A5/S5.

So, to me, especially in terms of design, the beemers looses here. Not by much, but the A5 is just to beautiful!!

I would say a tragedy, my illusions regarding great NA BMW engines were gone long ago but even with that in mind i always thought that if one NA engine had to stay it would be the 3.0 L6, it's so emblematic, legendary and loved.

Maybe I'm alone here but, I think the front looks better now, but I preferred the rear LED strips on the pre-facelift!

The rear of the LCI coupe 3er Coupe is to die for I really love those led lights

The front is not bad, but I think I'll have to get used to the new design of headlights and front bumper. I don't really see a point why BMW is using those white stripes in headlights? It is pure design or has it some technical purpose too I must admit I don't like it. Neither in X1, nor in Z4 nor in 3 Series.


I'd also really like to see the facelift version of coupe with the M-Package. I wonder if it is going to have the same kidneys as the car shown in press release pictures or the pre-LCI kidneys. There was such a case with 1 Series hatchback (LCI M Package cars have pre-LCI kidneys). Let's hope they don't change M-Package bumpers because they still look great IMO

The official release is already behind us. Let's wait for real life pictures.

The design of this car is weak. I'm sorry.

The front now looks more bloated and less sporty. The profile looks like a whale, the wheel wells are too big, the rear is too long. The 3 has lost it's sporty edge, looks like a boulevard cruiser now, instead.

The front isn't actually that bad, until you compare it to the pre FL. Lost is the aggressiveness, the simplicity, replaced by a front that should be on a larger car. It's handsome, it just doesn't fit.

The proportion of the LCI front is wrong not because it needs to fit in larger car, not even the M-sport package (w/mustache kidney grill) can leverage in this case. This maybe one of few LCI failure in BMW record.

As many have mentioned, the best combination would be pre-LCI (front, side skirt, side mirrors) and LCI rearlight. Retrofitting LCI celis LED rearlights are going to have a decent sales.

Pre-LCI (Great front proportion with headlight, nose angle, side mirrors, bumper-to-headlight height ratio, etc)

LCI (Wrong front proportion, protruding front bumper, too flat on kidney grill top, side mirrors shapely strange and excessive)

I think i even like the rear lights more of the pre fl..
Cause they have some contrast to them when lights are off..the new ones are very red..
But thats just minor.. the rear is great

But the front.. total **** up of a great looking face..

The new regulations are mostly to blame for the less succesful changes in exterior design.

From the press release:

...the front end, now sticking out further than before, helps to optimise pedestrian safety.

The exterior mirrors also come in new design, adding yet another innovation to the unique looks of the BMW 3 Series Coupé and the BMW 3 Series Convertible. In their dimensions they naturally comply with the latest legal standards, offering the complete mirror surface and coverage required.

The hood and the front as whole seem to be higher than before giving the E92/E93 a more sedan-like appearance.

I'm more than satisfied with the engines, the 3er engine lineup was already the best in its class.

New 6-speed manual for 335i & 320d :

Both the new BMW 3 Series Coupé and the new BMW 3 Series Convertible come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. The BMW 335i and the BMW 320d feature a newly developed transmission with dry sump lubrication which, through its optimised operation, enhances the efficiency of these models to an even higher level than before.

Looking at it again, I don’t like it. They “chunked-up” the proportions so that the E92 would hit the same note as every other BMW - all the details are bolder, with the larger, scalloped-out headlights and the 13-slat (down from 14) grille. The only improvment seems to be the back, which has actually “dechunked” just a tad and looks great.

I guess what makes me angry about this is the same thing that made me angry about the E65 facelift.

Instead of taking the original idea and expounding on it, they’ve decided to tone-down the vision so as to better conform with the rest of BMW’s lineup. That’s garbage.

Better would be to see the unique traits of the E92/93 amplified to create a bigger differentiation between it and its 4-doored sibling (I guess it's much easier to add details than it is to facelift with more Brancusi'esque minimalism).

I can’t wait for the new generation of wide-kidney’ed “predator-faced” BMWs to debut, because the entire range, save the Z4, is becoming a total snooze.
