8 Series (G15) [Official] BMW 8-Series Gran Coupé (G16)

The second-generation of the BMW 8 Series consists of the G14 (convertible version), G15 (two-door coupe version) grand tourers, and G16 (four-door "Gran Coupe" sedan version) executive cars (E). The G14/G15/G16 generation has been in production since 2018, and is often collectively referred to as the G15. It replaced the F06/F12/F13 6 Series lineup. Production: 2018-

Oh drat ! That dreaded disproportionate wheel/body ratio again.

Why am I reminded of...this ?:

LOL! In still pics I see it a bit, but in walk-around videos where you pick up on the dimensionality more, that gainliness becomes significantly diminished to my eyes. I know design is subjective, but I legitimately think BMW has really done a good job in designing a low, sleek, long and wide 4-door. It has none of the hunchbackedness of some of its contemporaries. I think only the gen 2 SWB Panny and current CLS come close to successfully achieving those design parameters.

How’s this not the best looking 4 door coupe for some.....just amazing

It's certainly not won me over yet. I just don't much like the front end treatment of the 8, and the proportions of the GC are just a bit iffy for me. I'm surprised how close the silhouette is to the 6GC because that car hides its bulk so much better than this.

But, as with most BMW's these days it'll look better in the flesh, which is an opportunity I will seek this weekend.

Indeed, the "in the metal" and "on the road" experience may change my currently critical opinion as well.

Returning to automotive exterior design, sartorial preferences and other extravagances...

Why does a glossy dark metallic AMG GT 63S with 21" satin silver AMG Y-spoke rims remind me of...this ?:

Too thick frame around rear pillar is what bothers me.

Djordje, did you do those photoshops? If yes, can kindly do one where the H-Kink is the same or similar to that of the 6er GC? I am curious to see if a traditional H-kink would look good or if the C-pillar will look to ungainly. With the current treatment, I think on thing I like about it is how the trim that is underneath the bottom of the rear window rises as it moves towards the C-pillar, further highlighting the wedge-like nature of the "coupe" silhouette.

The more traditional Hofmeister-Knick benefits the looks of the 8er GC methinks. It blends far better with the rooflines' flow.

The car is not designed to use the old kink, actually it does not fit and it makes it look dated, a new design language implies change, it would have been lazy and boring that they would have made only a fearful and "play safe" evolution of the 6GC.
I think the 8 GC is perfect as it is

Exactly.
