8 Series (G15) [Official] BMW 8-Series Gran Coupé (G16)

The second-generation of the BMW 8 Series consists of the G14 (convertible version), G15 (two-door coupe version) grand tourers, and G16 (four-door "Gran Coupe" sedan version) executive cars (E). The G14/G15/G16 generation has been in production since 2018, and is often collectively referred to as the G15. It replaced the F06/F12/F13 6 Series lineup. Production: 2018-
For me, personally, I reckon this thing's better resolved:

Resolved? Resolved like a wet bar of soap...

I don't much like the 8GC either.

Good to have such a cool car in the lineup, at the top of the food chain of sedans we have in my humble opinion, the inventor of this with two cars, the nice CLS and the at least discutible AMG 63, the Panamera which is a super complete car in every way and this beauty 8GC that promises to be the best of all.
Maseratis and Astons fully comply with the beauty and cache section, but something does not work in terms of popularity, the A7 with everything that I like Audi, I do not see it at the same level

I read that this GC is it wider and cheaper than its equivalent versions of the coupe

It look me a while to realise it is a wet bar of soap, I thought it was melted cheese.

If this photo does not convince the detractors, I do not know what it will do.
I am very pleased that with a new design language, it will succeed in supplanting the beautiful 6 GC.

Thankfully, if not for this, it would weigh 3,000kg:

"The 8-series Gran Coupe also relies on lightweight materials to keep wight down and improve handling".
"Aluminum construction is used for the doors, hood, roof, front bulkhead, engine subframe and rear bumper support. The trunk lid is made from dent-resistant plastic while the cabin dashboard support is made from magnesium and parts of the center driveline tunnel are made from carbon-fiber reinforced plastic. The M850i xDrive offers an optional carbon fiber roof which replaces the glass moonroof and lowers the weight and center of gravity."

For the record, I think I preferred the 4 door coupe thing when the cars had proper boots, rather than these fast back designs.

The 6GC and the W218 CLS both looked better than the Panamera or A7. The face and ass of the new CLS let it down, but the shape is still better than the AMG GT. The 8GC would look better IMHO with more of a boot, and less of a hump.

Well we finally have a true production translation of the 2007 CS Concept

The CS Concept however has (had):

Precisely sculptured haunch and flank tendons that effectively reduced visual mass.

Far better dialogue between the wheels and lower 2/3s' of the cars' body.

Visually diminished mass between the crests of the front wheel arches and bonnet/crest of the rear wheel arches and haunch tendons.

A more rakish roof/pillar treatment that provides a shallower, sleeker roofline.

A "kink" that accentuates flow rather than disrupting it.

A far more functional looking, well-integrated, less contrived front fender/door vent

Far better integration of the trunklid devoid of distracting shutline.

The CS Concept remains a masterpiece in automotive exterior design. A most precious gem. And after 12 years it still looks remarkably fresh. I cannot recall a more cohesive, more visually mesmerizng BMW. Ever.

Yeah and we can go on and on with the differences, some of which are regrettable, others being dictated by regulatory norms, yet others simply being the result of BMW's design language evolution over the past 12 years. The fact is that the 8 GC is so far the closest yet production illustration of this Concept in terms of model philosophy, general shape (especially profile), proportions, overall more so than the 6 GC has been, even though I'm willing to concede the 6 GC is indeed more similar in a few key elements like the horizontal greenhouse or the shooting up crease on the flank.

Let's not forget, it was also a concept. Possibly not that far from production, but still, as with most BMW close to production concepts.. the final execution is often not quite as "right".

After 12 years of the CS I do not get tired of looking at it, I think the only thing that still can not be rescued from it is that quiet stance to know that it is the most imposing and beautiful four-door car in the neighborhood but without striving in the most minimum.

By the way and just looking at the pictures, it is clear that seeing the 8GC IRL will remain me and some more too, sweeping the floor with the jaw in the better posible way, or someone doubts it, will be a zen moment, excellent work

Breaking news, the 8GC won the beauty test against the A7 and the AMG 63 in bmwblog, stay tuned
