8 Series (G15) [Official] BMW 8 Series Coupé (G15)

The second-generation of the BMW 8 Series consists of the G14 (convertible version), G15 (two-door coupe version) grand tourers, and G16 (four-door "Gran Coupe" sedan version) executive cars (E). The G14/G15/G16 generation has been in production since 2018, and is often collectively referred to as the G15. It replaced the F06/F12/F13 6 Series lineup. Production: 2018-
The interior of Lexus LC is designed and executed better than that of 8er.

It looks like one of those high tech Japanese kitchens. Any minute at the push of a button. The hibachi grille will slide and emerge from the dash and the glovebox turns into an oven.

If I could have a slight complaint about the center console near the gearlever area all the buttons and surrounds are totally shiny plastic and as can be seen in this picture when you zoom in you can see the dust and finger print marks. This detracts it from the otherwise excellent quality look from the rest of interior by letting some cheapness in which is a real pity considering its huge price.

My local dealer is offering me a M850 launch edition as seen in the press photos winter 2018; I think I’ll wait to see how the GC looks like.

While I can live with some of those fussy details on the car,my biggest dislikes of it are the overall stance and side profile, which have never been issues with BMWs.The overall stance looks a little flat to me while the rear wheel panels seem a little bit too heavy(@sako is it that obvious in real life?)...need to see it in real, for now by looks I'd still take the 6er inside and out.

I thought the hips gave it a muscular stance - adding to the low shark-like appearance.

To me the profile of the F12 always seemed slab-sided. I got the impression the Gran Coupé was designed first as it was the most resolved and elegant looking of the 6er family.

Reeeeallly? I mean, I love the outside of the E31, but the interior... not so much.

To my eyes it was much more coherent and focused compared to the new 8 interior. Just put a touch screen instead of buttons on the center console and a smaller, thicker rimmed steering wheel and the original 8 would be ready for 2018 IMO.

Arriving late to the party and this probably been mentioned before but the rear is way too Lexus like, so fussy and messy otherwise i love the menacing front. Interior looks kinda plain compared to it's main rival the S-Coupe. Still would take the S550 4Matic coupe over this anyday.

I wonder if anodized black metal would have been a better choice. It'd be hot to touch on a hot day but it'd cut back on smudgies.

First of all, I hope/think that what we see here is still pre-production. When it hits the streets, the entire area should at least be finished in the identical black. Here, I see three shades of black.
Black metal is something I have been missing for a while. The reason why there is practically no series production car with black anodized interior parts probably is that ‚faking‘ black metal in the way alu is faked in virtually any car (no matter how expensive) does not work. As soon as it‘s black instead of silver, it looks like plastic again. And for the very few visible parts that are actually metal or alu, anodized oxidation is much too expensive (and, of course, incoherent then).

What they might have done here is to go for glass materials. There are quite new artificial variants on the market which offer an interesting feel, can incorporate hard keys, and cannot be mistaken for plastic. Also, they are much less prone to fingerprints ...

No different from Command from a Mercedes or MMI from an Audi surround that also will generate dust and finger prints. Any car will also succumb to this even the Bentley Continental GT.
Touchable surfaces are meant to be touched but you have to clean them.

Close up with flash, it won't be like that in real life. Just like you won't be able to see the 'P' from the gear lever. Don't worry about that :)

Considering this is part of the Bayerishce Motoren Werke, I could see them using some materials from R-R, such as acrylic and Bakelite.

EDIT: Just saw @bmwblog post RL pics of the blue example. Looks good! It's lighter than I had expected in the daylight. I was hoping it'd have a hint more purple like the 8er Concept Car.
BMW M850i in Barcelona Blue - Live from Le Mans

EDIT #2: What is the panel in the instrument binnacle, right above where it says "M850i?" I also noticed in the X5.

Just noticed the M colors on the glass shifter

That‘s not a given, I bet. In the new touchscreenatic Audis, for instance, I already found those different blacks side by side. In production cars. Also, this photo does not look like there was flash involved. It‘s rather midday sun ... so real-life conditions. And the surfaces I compare are all in one plane and probably delivered by the same supplier. Might well be final at that point.
In sum: I don‘t completely share your optimism ;) (for now).

The interior has a retro feel to it, I don't mind it. I just saw the glass gear stick is optional, I assume that's the same for the X5. That's a shame, it should be standard.
