7 Series (G11) [Official] BMW 7 Series (G11/12)

The BMW G11 is the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series, produced from 2015 to 2022. Model codes: G11 (short-wheelbase version), and G12 (long-wheelbase version) luxury saloons, collectively referred to as the G11. Production: July 2015–2022. Model years: 2016–2022.
Really it's no rocket science.

The new iPerformance models will be vehicles from the core BMW line-up that have plug-in hybrid technology that was first used in the i3 or i8. This technology includes the, "electric motors, battery cells and electronic control systems" and the first models to use some of the i Brand guts will be the plug-in hybrid versions of the 7 Series, like the new BMW 740e iPerformance.

iPerformance 'eDrive' is for the PHEV or electric versions.
M is for the M versions
d is for the diesel engine.
i is for the gasoline injection engines.

And there we go.

Because BMW i is a brand. BMW e is nothing.

I must admit, I'm completely confused by this "iPerformance" nomenclature.

Is there going to be an "e" model AND an "iPerformance" model? For example:

750e
750e iPerformance

I think iPerformace will be to e models what increasing the boost pressure was to good ol' turbocharging.

BMW is just gonna increase the voltage by 0.5 bars :D

Good question. It appears not to be as simple as I initially thought...

iPerformance will be all standard model in hybrid(plugin) versions. The half way from standard to "i" models. Just like Mperformace are halfway between standard and M models. I saw some diagram about that, but I can`t remember where. I will try to find it later....

No, all 'e' model is iPerformance model. So BMW has iPerformance model, MPerformance model, Individual model, standard model and 'true' M cars. It is confusing...

My issue with this "iPerformance" branding is that it doesn't add anything compared to just badging it "e" (as in 330e or 740e). It's like calling the 330i "pPerformance", or the 330d "dPerformance".

Adding the iPerformance name implies there is also a standard 330e. With the M Performance naming you do get extra stuff to differentiate it from the core models, even if it is only a tenuous link to the M division.

You could have the "core" models badged three different ways depending on the power plant (for example):

330i (petrol engines)
330d (diesel engines)
330e (electric power)

And then you could have the "Performance" versions:

M340i
M350d
M330e

One last question, why is the 2AT known as 225xe whereas the X5 is known as X5 Xdrive40e?

One last question, why is the 2AT known as 225xe whereas the X5 is known as X5 Xdrive40e?

Maybe because of different technic?
The 225xe is a plug in hybrid and can be a FWD, RWD and AWD. RWD because the electric engine energizes the rear axle.

It's not just the plug-in hybrid that is like this though. All the engines are badged in a different way.

For example:

X5 sDrive25d vs 220d (no mention of "sDrive")

X5 xDrive25d vs 220d xDrive

What I don't understand is the Z4 badging. I can see why BMW would want to make it clearer that a traditionally 4WD vehicle only has 2WD, hence the "sDrive" badging on SUVs, but why the "sDrive" badging on the Z4 when it doesn't even come in 4WD?! Why are no other RWD BMWs (other than SUVs) badged "sDrive"?

@SCOTT27 will you stop posting this marketing BS!! What has this got to do with the 7 Series?!! FFS! :banghead:

Mods, can something be done about this? We've got somebody who works for the marketing department just spamming the forum with marketing crap. It devalues the forum. Can anybody honestly say that video adds value to the forum?

He's even got his own special section where he can post crap like this, but instead he posts it in here.
