5 Series (G30) [Official] BMW 5-Series (G30)

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series. Body styles: (G30) (sedan), (G31) (wagon), (G38) (LWB sedan). Predecessor: 5 Series (F10). Successor: 5 Series (G60). Production: 2016-2023.
Will do. Been driving a bunch of different loaners (inc the previous model 5'er) for last four months but have been missing the W205 throughout. Looking forward to finally stepping into the G30.
What is your overall impression of the W205? Also I am curious to know why you picked BMW and going up a size to the 5 series?

Lol..have you seen the basic low rent 520i? it's blasphemy so does basic E200,change the rims on both and install 20 inch and it's totally the opposite.
IMO the problem with G30's looks is familiarity, the car looks too familiar.

Go troll somewhere else buddy. If there's one thing familiar it's those freaking Benzes which all look exactly the same..... namely boring and ugly.

I was a big fan of the 205 - it was a game changer in my opinion. An absolutely lovely car - especially in terms of the interior and the technology features. MB really pushed the other manufacturers to lift their game and we can all enjoy the benefits when you look across the brands now. They had their various quality issues in terms of build but overall they're a really great car. Tech was everything you could ever want and I have to say that I'm still missing some of the features and ergonomics.

I could have been tempted to step into another one - I tested the C43 and loved that, but due to demand discounts were tough to get. Then I started looking at the E to step up a notch. To touch on the above point, the W213 for me just looked too similar to the 205. No question it is a lovely car as well, but I wasn't a fan of the dual iPad type dash, nor the exterior styling. Ultimately BMW put together a better package and offer to step into the 540i.

I much prefer the styling of the G30. It also offers some nicer tech features that MB still don't provide Aus customers (i.e. connected drive, traffic sign assist, etc.). I'm very much looking forward to the car as I couldn't actually find one to test drive (especially with the integral active steering).

Tastefully spec'd. I've always thought that BMWs' tend to look very attractive in white.

They do. But why you can’t get mineral white with the m sport pack on a lot of models is beyond me and I’ve never come across a real explanation.

Alpine white does not do the new X3 any favours.

Yes it's odd isn't it. I looked into the Mineral White but was told it could only be chosen on the 'luxury' 540i and not the 'M Sport' (no reason). Then looked at the new Individual whites (the Brilliant and Frozen Brilliant White), but the dealer couldn't get an individual build slot and delivery would've pushed out to another 3 months.

BMW seems to always fiddle with the options. Another disappointment was the fact that cars up to Dec-17 had wireless phone charging as standard. Our Jan-18 build had it dropped and no one knew about it until it was too late. The dealer only realized once the car was on the boat and I didn't get told until delivery. The mind boggles as to why they pull certain features like that on a car of this caliber and cost. Never mind, I received two packets of mints as compensation.

Car is otherwise fantastic. A step up from the W205. It's a more comfortable drive, very quiet and tons of linear power delivery. Interior exudes quality throughout and is an extremely comfortable place to travel in. The seat cooling is a little underwhelming, but the massage and 20 way adjustments are a gem. Very settled on the road and the adaptive dampeners provide a good mix of sport and comfort modes. Integral Active Steering (IAS) is an odd one to judge. I ticked the feature thinking it would offer me some better maneuverability around town but now realise that's not so much the case. The rear wheel steering isn't active when standing still or rolling at low speed, so I'm not sure when it kicks in. The steering behavior doesn't feel noticeably different from other rear wheel drive Beemers I've driven. The car feel very planted on the road however and corners well for a big sedan. This is one of those vehicle that cries out for an empty Autobahn (sigh)...

Wireless charging was also dropped as standard equipment from the X3. Luckily I went through the specifications with a fine tooth comb before my build was locked and pointed it out to the dealer who was quite surprised.

Awesome spec. Congrats! Is internet connectivity or remote app not available to MB cars in Oz?

The remote app are still not available to MB cars in OZ, not sure if it will ever be available.

Terrible. I use it on my BMW frequently to check whether the car is locked, or lock it if I'm in the bedroom and the keys are downstairs.

MB Australia has a lot of catching up to do, we still don't have Mercedes Me functionality yet, 4 years after its global launch...4 years.

Given the sales volume of Mercedes in Australia, double that of BMW, it’s extremely poor form the app services are not yet available.

Amen to that. Even the traffic sign assist should have been long sorted by now. I guess they still view this market as too small to warrant any kind of development investment.

The traffic sign assist is now available on the 2018 built E class and S class. I think since sales are going strong in the Australian market, MB Australia thinks they can get away with it. We still cannot order wood trim for the lower center console for the E class, despite being available everywhere else for nearly a year.
