I've just traded my W205 on a 540i order. Unfortunately wasn't able to find a demo in the 540 but had a drive of the 6 cylinder diesel which also would have been tempting. It's a nice car but don't see many around town. Any common niggles or known issues to look out for?

Yes. Our G30 5er starting smelling like something was burning from time to time. After a month of usage, we called out dealer and told us the newest BMWs are coming with a new particle filter that from time to time "burns" certain particles that are left insde the filter or something along those lines.

Not sure if it applies to petrol engines as well, but it might be helpful for new owners.

^ I recall this same behavior from our last car (W205 C250d). It's something they do on the diesel powered cars only I think. Pretty ugly - lots of white smoke and stink.

The G30 is very color and spec sensitive as well

Color choice is completely subjective, but it's safe to say the 5er looks great even in it's most basic form, unlike some other cars, *hint hint*, where not the rims but the whole thing is soft and boring @Tarek

I’ve seen some very pedestrian and unimpressive looking examples.

I personally think it's good looking either way, and just changing the rims on those unimpressive examples would go a long way. But it's smooth as hell without the M pack, which is not a must at all.

Lol..have you seen the basic low rent 520i? it's blasphemy so does basic E200,change the rims on both and install 20 inch and it's totally the opposite.
IMO the problem with G30's looks is familiarity, the car looks too familiar.

Those wheels are 20 inch "668M" - they initially came out with the M Sport 550 but can be purchased separately now in some countries. They look very hot.

Not sure about availability in Australia yet. The standard 540 20" wheel is V Spoke "759"

I think you can get them now in Australia. Btw when is your 540i going to be ready for delivery ?

It is indeed, I am trying to find the name of this wheel, it isn't showing up in the BMW Australia configuratior.
They are styling 405 - M-Doppelspeiche, they won't appear in the configurator because BMW only sell them through aftermarket brand M performance accessory.

Will do. Been driving a bunch of different loaners (inc the previous model 5'er) for last four months but have been missing the W205 throughout. Looking forward to finally stepping into the G30.
