Meh they're both bland but this car won't disappoint anyone.

Ja,Ja,Ja...sensssssual puritttttty...what else is new?

BMW would have a theme name of their own if they could get someone to stick around long enough.

Joking of course, I know Adrian has been there for a long time.

Wow harsh words from Marcus. But he always been a grumpy guy, sometimes it feels like he is related to Betty :D
I have yet to seen the 5er in real life but it looks great in photos. I don't see how its going to look worse than E-class or A6 in real life, they aren't exactly standing out in the crowd when you see them in the streets. Lexus is doing a better job than the germans, they look more unique if you ask me.

A shame, but this car is about as dull as they come. Dishwater dull. Barely even noticed it in Detroit at the auto show. Interior is better than before, but the exterior is even more forgettable than the 7-Series.

Soo, its been a long time but I just had to comment here and I have to say I agree with Merc1...well kind of.
I think the new 5 series is a nice looking car just like the F10 was/is but thats about it. Its not a dull car but its nothing special either and its such an evolutionary design that alot of people (your avergae joe) who see it in standard trim will not realise its the new model. I saw one the other day, (official UK release is 12th Feb so they are not on the roads yet) and at first I didnt even realise it was the new 5 series!
I then went to a dealer preview and same opinions again, very evolutionary design change and looks like a second facelift to the F10, seriosuly thats what I would call it. Interior is nice but again nothing special and after reading soo many reviews on the interior I was actually disappointed with the quality not being as good as what was being made about it in press reviews. The plastic buttons on the centre console feel very plasticky and are not any better than the F10's. Audi do the best job here. Im not saying the quality is bad, but it certainly isnt the best in its segment and certainly not ahead of the competition!
Its looks like a BMW, a very current design BMW, no doubt about it and for BMW fans or owners its probably a good thing but to say it stands out like no other car in its segment is nonsense! The one thing that looks good is the surfacing on the side in lighter metallic colours on a sunny day but apart from that its a very evolutionary design (and a more rounded softer design at the front and inside) and I wasnt as impressed as id hoped I would be. Currently own an F10 Lci and a 6er GC and I will probably upgrade to the G30 soon but my opinions are from what ive seen so you can disagree with this post as much as you like

What nonsense. The E and S look just as different from each other as the 5 and 7 do, which is to say not much. Something different than the expectations everyone knew the E would have? Is that supposed to mean something?

M

100% the E and S looks as different as the 5 and 7 do! You can no way say that the 7 and 5 look more different than the S and E! Both are great cars in their own way and the E hasnt leaped ahead of its competion in terms of design and the 5 series certainly hasnt leaped ahead of the competition in design either as was being made out on this forum!

We had one.
Flame Surfacing. It was so hot that even our competitors felt the heat from it..

My only criticism of this interior is the floating screen, it really should have been integrated into the dash. 7er as well..

This however, to me, renders your whole opinion on design useless. It's factually false.

Perhaps something for internal combustion but maybe you can state how the 5 and 7 are so different to each other compared to the E and the S

The design for both the Merc and Bimmer are relatively inoffensive. There's nothing truly polarizing about it; they just play to their brands' strengths. Honestly, not having driven either one, if I had to wager, they probably drive very similarly in everyday driving. For me what it'd come down to is where am I getting a better deal and which one is likely to be less a pain in the ass and to the wallet to maintain and service over a span of 8-10 years.

Keyword in your statement was "had." Its unfortunate that BMW no longer feels the need to create design that inspires the industry. They'd much rather play it safe.

Let's see what happens under Joseph Kaban.

Do you know where Karim has gone?

Nope nothing has been stated until now, but i wouldn<t be surprised if he went to the koreans.
