3 Series (G20) [Official] BMW 3 Series (G20)

The BMW G20 is the seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: G20 (sedan), G21 (wagon/touring), G28 BEV (i3), and G28 (long-wheelbase). Predecessor: F30 3 Series. Successor: G50 3 Series. Production: October 2018-2016.
BMW's head of design, Adrian van Hooydonk, says his team is being pushed harder than ever to differentiate the styling of its cars, and relishing the prospect. "I told them that if they can change the 3 Series then they have really changed BMW, because it is really at our core," he said. "Designing a Z4 or 8 Series is special of course, but those cars a...

Wait till you see the 7er Life Cycle Impulse. It has that drama that the 3er has brought.
The front end is less rounded the grille is more of a prominent sculpture, its large have no doubt about that but superbly sculptured and more three dimensional.
To be honest it's more of an update to ideas presented in the Vision Future Luxury Concept Car. You will recognise some of the elements.
A new M Packet replaces today's which has begun to look dated.

The headlights are are more sharper at the edges. The rear to me was always more angular compared to the front but they have inherited the new light language with the three dimensional L shape making it more sharper.

The interior has relatively few differences against the exterior.
Everything is familiar to The 7 owner. And also those that like some of the new features of incoming models what with materials and layout.

The V12 lives on... in a heavily reconfigured upgraded WLTP upgrade.
As well as the updated V8, and 6 Cylinder petrol and PHEV eDrive iPerformance.

@SCOTT27
I dont remeber where i read that bmw may have a surprise at paris motor show !!
Do you know anything about this !!

Dont remember anything else of high importance as that main surprise was the 3er. The only recent vehicles missing from Paris is iNext which will be going on a European Tour shortly and the X2M35i which debuts in LA alongside the M340i. And The X7 and The 8 Cabrio.
I know the media who went to Atlanta for the X5 had experienced the X2M35i straight afterwards.

LA is doubling up for NAIAS for BMW. As BMW will not be attending January's show. In fact the first major outing for BMW on the international show circuit will be Geneva in March.

Less than an hour after the BMW 3 Series was revealed, Audi design chief Marc Lichte has come over to have a look. "Yes, it does look nicer than an Audi A4", says editor Tisshaw.

The interior needs the new iDrive, the new shifter area, new air vents and new door handles.

Which I doubt it will have tbh...

Sorry but I have to disagree to a large (but not entirely) extent. The C-Class has a superficially exotic looking cabin which has come under more scrutiny in later years and garnered considerable criticism for a lack of solidity and build integrity beneath that attractive surface. I personally can't stand it. It brought so many crap elements into vogue l...

One Car mag comparison doesn't cut it. The C-Class interior was overwhelmingly received as incredibly special for the class and a major leap over the F30 interior (blue trim strips and all GROSS!). Go back, read and watch the reviews. Stating why BMW didn't install a column mounted shifter if they felt they had to up their game is quite frankly, rather silly. They upped their game - BMW style.

its nice but somehow am not moved by it. i would go for the 5 series if i wanted a bmw sedan.

I won't be drawn further into this discussion on personal taste and subjective opinion.

Let's keep the W205 and the F30 out of this thread.

You plan on going new or pre-owned/certified with the 8?

M

Err.. I'll ask the butler.

He's upstairs, wait a sec.

"Hey Alfred!!!"

"Yes Sir???"

"Do I own BMW???"

"Yes Sir we use the Quandts as proxy!!!"

"Tell them I want a black eight!!!"

"Not until you buy that intercom you promised!!!"

What the -

"Alfred!!!"

"What Sir???"

"Do I own Walmart???"

Something is worrying with the new 3er no mention of the 6 speed manual in the BMW presss release only that the ZF8 as standard? Evo and car magazine are reporting that there will be a 6 speed and ZF8 available at launch. I really hope BMW did not ditch the 6 speed.

“A new six-speed manual gearbox will be introduced alongside the updated eight-speed Steptronic transmission.”

https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/amp/car-news/first-official-pictures/bmw/k3-series/?__twitter_impression=true

“Two gearbox and drivetrain options will be offered at launch, with rear-wheel drive standard and BMW’s xDrive four-wheel-drive system offered as an option, including on the 320d. The outgoing car’s six-speed manual gearbox is retained having been thoroughly overhauled; an eight-speed Steptronic auto will be available as an option.”

New 2019 BMW 3-series revealed – lighter and more dynamic sports saloon

@bmwblog will a 6 speed manual be available ?

You're reading the U.S. specific press release. The clue is where it mentions "Woodcliff Lake, NJ".

Any weight figures and measurements yet guys?

I see the M340i now has the updated engine with 380 hp, and it's going to be a freakin rocket! Will likely not be that far from the current standard 420 hp M4.

The 320d is heavier than the F30 320d. The 330i is lighter than the F30 330i.

And the current M3/M4 has 431hp as standard. 420hp was the E92 M3.

Anyone going to Paris? I really want to know more about the plastics flanking the transmission tunnel.

Me. Next Monday (8th Oct).

The city on the other side of the bridge is Molde, I live just outside of town on the Atlantic coast. The photo with the house and blue car is in Ålesund, the other photos are taken all around the county I live in which is called Møre og Romsdal.
what the hell i used to fly into molde and ålesund but we lost the routes at the start of this year, if i only knew.

lovely places, im in bodo at the moment. nearly as stunning approach as ålesund and molde.

@SCOTT27, maybe you can answer this question in the 7er forum but how exactly does the LCI 7er interior look...does it get the new dashboard & center console layout/execution as seen in the G05/G20/G29 or does it retain its current layout but with elements from the new style layout?

I agree we shouldn't make this into a comparison thread. But since you bring up your issues with the W205 interior, I simply had to share this article: G20 BMW 3 Series targeting Mercedes-Benz C-Class

In my opinion the W205 interior is pretty good, albeit much more so if you have the upgraded spec and not the basic spec with the non-metal look vents.

As good handling as the Jag XE and the Giulia are (apparently the chassis benchmarks for BMW) I could not bring myself to buy either.

Meet @nikola1984, our resident magpie who steals photos from other websites without proper credit. He's been told many times not to do this but he clearly doesn't give a f***.
This works both ways, my friend. May I remind you the Z4 images which we were the first to post, only to be reposted (without the GCF logo) by some random Instagram account, and then were snatched by each and every automotive site. Some even put their own logo on it!
