I took my BMW in for service and finally saw the new 3-Series.
The design is very strong! Although evolutionary and unmistakably a 3-Series from far away there are revolutionary design details to appreciate up close. The creases and contours are flow nicely without looking overdone. I'm actually very surprised by how much I like the design.
On the inside the new edgier design languages suits the car well even though the F30 had an aesthetically pleasing cabin. While the quality of the centre console stack of buttons has improved, the gear selector, trim and transmission tunnel surround are all hard plastic. It's a sub-premium feeling area and is not nice at all. However compromises should be expected in this car so I'm not shocked as it's only one weakness of a knockout car. The 5-Series and X3 feel noticeably more luxurious even though their interior design is older.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to test drive but look forward to giving the car a go in the next few months.
