3 Series (F30) [Official] BMW 3-Series (F30)

The BMW F30 is the sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: F30 (sedan), F31 (wagon/,touring), F34 (fastback/gran turismo), and F35 (long-wheelbase). For this generation, coupé/convertible models were spun off to create the new BMW 4 Series. Predecessor: BMW E90. Successors: G20 3 Series, and G26 4 Series Gran Coupé (F34). Production: 2011–2018.
I thought that the F30 looked good, but next to the E90 it looks less sporty and less agressive.

Maybe because:

a) the E90 doesn't run on factory suspension?

b) it is modified by having a spoiler added, tinted windows, black grille and 'smoked' taillights?

c) all of the above ;)

Compare the F30 with an OEM E90, and the result will be different.
Oh and besides the mods, the F30 beats the E90 in every way, particularly this pre facelift version :D

The E90 does stand up to it better than I thought it would. I see more of a "family friendly" vibe with the F30, and this ain't smack talking. The size, the more functionality-friendly look, the bigger greenhouse, and even the A-Pillar is more upright/less raked.

Man the new 3 series really looks great. I still think it looks like a mini 5 series, but there is nothing wrong with that in my book.

maybe it looks like that because of e90 color and black grille? f30 to me looks much more sporty cause of its agressive, kind of pointy design. Reminds me w212 vs w211

With equal mods, yeah, the F30 should look more aggressive and all around dynamic.

The F30's kidney's itself has a three-dimensional look, and with that piece of chrome on the sides the kidney looks more solid. The "shark nose" theme is prominent and leaning forward that together with the new headlights looks so beautifully aggressive. The really wide rear-end gives the car a good stance from the rear-view. The wheel arches looks really muscular and gives a solid look to the car. Thus much more sporty and mature that the E90.

:t-cheers:

Not to mention, it wouldn't really be possible to see an increase in side between the E90 and F30 if the E90 would be sitting on standard suspension.

^ Sorry for not understanding your thinking here, the F10 should have it but the F30 shouldn't..... because????

As far the debate goes I think I have already answered your question.

I can ad this, that being BMW's entry level cars both the F20 & F30 has to have handbrakes because teenage girls are turned-on by handbrake turns didn't you know?:D

I don't think. It on the contrary looks gay.

Back from a VIP show and for VIP it was crowded. Blue, grey, black and white color. White suits the car very well. And overall its a very appealing car. Interior design also great but I was disappointed with interior materials. I dont understand the fuss from media, the interior materials is certainly not as good as I expected it to be. Its not better than E90 and certainly not the same standard as a 5-series. Lots of hard plastic everywhere. Yepp, this was a huge disapointment to me. But still I wouldnt mind owning a F30.

Im going for a testdrive this weekend. Lets hope its drives as well as media says.

Enlightening words about the materials. Not the first person who's expressed concern or disappointment. Can't wait to see one for myself.

Three-cylinder BMW 3 Series on its way?

Peter Nefischer, head of engine development for BMW, has said the automaker is currently working on developing three-cylinder engines to be used across the company's vehicle line. The powerplants would likely be different than the one found in the BMW i8 and wouldn't be partnered with an electric motor. Instead, engineers would turn to forced induction to maintain acceptable power levels. Nefischer said engineers have gone as far as possible with current engine technology, and the next step is smaller, more powerful variants.

So, when can we expect to see a three-cylinder 3 Series hit the streets? According to the report, the vehicle could be here in two years. BMW has already demonstrated the sort of gains that can be made by dropping cylinder count. Just look at the F30 328i with the vehicle's impressive power and fuel economy as an example. Will BMW bring 3 Series to the table with half the cylinders of the tried-and-true I6? Stranger things have happened.

FIRST: Thanks for the vid's Soup, reminds me of my visit to the spectacle of efficiency that is Plant Rosslyn near Pretoria RSA where the E90 and from next month the F30's are going to be build in my country for the whole world LH + RH drive versions;)

Now let's be open, honest and fair. There was nothing wrong and nobody griped about the perceived quality of the E90, fact. I was the first to 'kiss and tell' about my absolute disgust with the X1's cheap, nasty, low rent, sub-Korean standard plastics below 'the belt' or what we are told by BMW are not where we as owners/drivers look, touch, feel BS!!!

Nor was the previous 1er near VAG standards;)

That said, from start the E90 lead the material quality race and the W204 was the underdog - rightfully so. Came the W204 FL and my first encounter was with the new C-class coupe. In most areas there where much improvement. Also hopefully so, because me, I respect the mighty Three Pointed Star. Ok, truth is M-B did 1/2 a job and the proof is/was always in the pudding. Some of you may or may not remember my post, about my visit to the local M-B dealer and my disappointment with nasty plastics in the W204 FL (with photo's of proof)

The E90 ser cars, wagons, coupes did not have this obvious 'problem'

Now then, I can't really give my verdict on the F30's plastics yet. That said the F20 1er did not disappoint me at all and I am really fussy, picky, licky, touchy, tasty and actually a bit over the top with this - perceived quality thingy. Honestly I think it's OCD;)

March is local launch for the F30 and I will be back!

I hope the F30 is on par with the E90 - at least, and not near W204 and A6/A7 easy to spot (my JIMS photo's) nasty plastics, watch this space.

I've been talking with other BMW owners who seen the F30 in close like me. They feel the same as me and also pointed out about hard plastics. Don't get me wrong, its not like I dont want to own a F30 because of this, its just that I was expecting a lot better quality. I guess we have to wait for a facelift.

Tomorrow I hope I'll be driving the new 3-series.
