O yes, this WILL happen! And all but the U.S. will get the choice of a i3 Turbocharged engine. This has been discussed a long time ago in detail.
I've been talking with other BMW owners who seen the F30 in close like me. They feel the same as me and also pointed out about hard plastics. Don't get me wrong, its not like I dont want to own a F30 because of this, its just that I was expecting a lot better quality. I guess we have to wait for a facelift.
Tomorrow I hope I'll be driving the new 3-series.

Where are they most obvious Just_me, lower door pockets, seat back rear, lower dash, center console etc. ?
You have to touch. Scratch with your finger nails. Knock-on to listen at the sound of hollow NASTY plastic. Look at how shiny it is and take a photo with flash in hi-res. Even lick it if you want. Also painted plastic is better (VAG invented it) but is not hard wearing.
I touched and touched, pretty much everything is hard plastics.
Why don't you see for yourself? Is it possible, that you guys, that you have seen the car IRL, tell us which areas are of hard plastics?

There are some hard plastics, there's no denying, but not they way you describe it, and only in lower places impossible to even see*. Like the area where the right knee of the driver is.
Agreed, it's quite an improvement over the E90. Also, like you said, F10 and F01 are still in a whole different league, and rightfully so.*Unless you really went looking for it, everything is pretty premium, soft touch and high quality. There's some 'shortcuts' here and there, but then again this is no 7er. Quality has improved over the E90 without a doubt.
why don't you see for yourself?
and those are the good parts...
Substandard, don't see what the fuss is about, like anyone expected anything different. And what's all the talk about wood. Pipe & slippers next? Rocking chair? Sorry to say but anyone impressed by f20 interior quality must drive an x1 or a mini.
I'm with Just_me, there is plenty of hard plastic but this doesn't bother me because like with the latest Audis it's in areas where your hands seldom touch. Overall I like the design and I especially like the space BMW have found in the rear.
^ That's worrying because the stats suggest a crackling little engine. What is their reasons for this?
