2 Series [Official] BMW 2 Series Active Tourer

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
Mat Watson praised the handling to the point of saying that it handles like a FWD hot hatch and it will be available with AWD as well.

Saw my first Active tourer today. Basic car, small wheels and no xeon lights. Not a good sight. Let's hope it look a lot better with other wheels and M-package.

The 7 Seater Gran Tourer is also coming along nicely.

I accept the 2AT. In it's class I think it drives and looks nice (enough) compared to the competition. This? It looks like a VAN. From now on I will call it the BMW 2 "Viano".

If you have large families then you will understand especially if you cannot stretch to an X5 model which is (currently) the only BMW with Seven Seats. Believe it or not but space for seven is a much requested feature in the premium segment.
For BMW at least there will be the 2er Gran Tourer and the X1 Extended Wheelbase. In the compact segment.
An extended wheelbase X3 and even a possibility of a 4er Active Tourer as a futuristic shooting break come-Tourer like the original RFK Concept idea which morphed into the Gran Turismo after BMW saw initial R-Klasse sales.
The X5 has seven seats and the upcoming X7 will have seven seats. So there will be a choice for everyone who needs that passenger flexibility.

When is the 7-Seat roadster coming?

Well if you have large families and the budget is limited then....don't buy a BMW because there are plenty of vehicles out there that can do a much better job at transporting 7 people in comfort at an affordable price. BMW shouldn't feel the need to offer a choice for everyone who needs that passenger flexibility.

What exactly is the premium segment? Why is this 2 series van (I refuse to insult my intelligence by calling it the active tourer) in the premium segment?

In an earlier post I have wrote there are two less or more little changes at the serial car in Comparison to the concept which change the front substantial: the headlights and the existent hoodline.
This is at the concept solved in a better way.

The concepts lights look slimmer and much better than production car with squared off LED coronas instead of round on production car. Concept grill also looks better, thicker grill slats and chromed as well

Concept has a much better resolved hood (shut lines) and the shape of the sheet metal between grille and headlights is much better on the concept as well; Too round on the real car.

How’s the BMW 228i on the Track? Better than the Mustang EcoBoost

The BMW M235i is definitely the pick of the range. If you’re into hardcore Bimmers that can also be used every day, the M Performance Automobile offers all you can wish for. You’ll get the smallest coupe from Munich with an inline six cylinder engine making 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) available from down low.

However, ever since the 2 Series range was revealed, there has been an ongoing discussion around the internet concerning whether you should get the 3-liter or the 2-liter engine on these Coupes. The pros and cons are pretty obvious.

On one hand, you get more power, a more track focused suspension and more torque with the M235i. At the same time, there’s more weight to carry around and you might not use all that power on a daily basis.

The 228i, on the other hand, has a 2-liter 4-cylinder plant that makes 245 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, considerably less than its bigger brother but enough for a car that weighs 1,460 kg (3,219 lbs). Furthermore, the weight distribution is better and so is the fuel consumption. If you live in a country that taxes you on account of engine size you’ll be better off too in this regard.

How about the performance on the track?

On the track there’s only one winner, though. The M235i steals it with its better dynamics, power, torque and suspension. It’s faster and feels a lot more focused than the 228i. That doesn’t mean the cheaper alternative isn’t capable though.

As you’re about to see, Matt Farrah took it for a spin at Willow Springs and he was impressed with the way the car handled itself. It’s even better than the Mustang EcoBoost too according to him and feels faster.

Considering the performance and how easy it would be to drive it daily as well as the comfort it offers, this is a really good alternative to the M235i, especially if you’re not going to go to the track every day. The pricing remains its biggest selling point though, as it is $11,000 cheaper than the M235i, starting at $32,100 MSRP in the US.

If you cant afford the M235i then this 228i looks like a peach of a car, it has really good performance, is nice and compact and with excellent handling to match!! Sounds like a tempting car to buy!!

I see you're an engineer .... did you ever have to fight with these management freaks who only believe in numbers and nothing else? I had, only recently. Believe me, most developers agree with your statement (as I do). They will take on the given challenge to build 'the BMW of vans' and use it to satisfy their ambitions.
But the portfolio path is chosen by others, and these others only go for numbers and market research. At BMW, they claim that you need impetus, novelty, controversy, both in terms of strategy and implementation ..... That is the reason why the brand offers a van, FWD, countless body shapes, and huge MINIs, but a main stream (super) sports car is still pretty far away. I guess people like us will never really get it. When looking at BMW now, one has to state: they are right, we are wrong. (Audi in comparison, seems more straight forward and conservative in its strategy and implementation. There are no fights about 'is this a true Audi?' (because there has been nothing striking since the A2), and the worst you hear about Audi design is that it is lame or that all Audis look the same. Still, from what insiders tell me, they are in a serious crisis right now.)

And, by the way: to my surprise, I like the AT. In a light color with 18 inch wheels, it looks ok. The people who asked me about it in front of the super market or IKEA all were Non-BMW-drivers and two even pointed out how much the did not like the brand (til then). So, again, it may work. Binding new customers, as they planned.

We have always been asked that will the 1er emulate the 3er back in its launch in 2004. And whilst we have reached some possibilities the chapter is not entirely closed.

Many have always asked about the possibility of a Touring and it has always been at the forefront when talking about further expansion. In a way both Active Tourer and the Gran Tourer fill that void to customers that want something reasonable in a segment but also offer extra versatility and flexibility over a standard Touring model.

The Active Tourer does provide exceptional space and flexibility as will the Gran Tourer which will not only offer extra rear seats but also when seats are folded extra luggage and carrying flexibility. And of course if we fold down the actual rear seats you get quite impressive loading space. Think of the Active Tourer as a higher hatch or indeed a Touring.

I think of the Active Tourer and Gran Tourer as front-wheel drive vans with a BMW badge on them.

Can't wait for the M2 and F30 LCI. My current F30 will be a trade-in but I worry that BMW won't want a real, decent Beemer on their used car forecourt.
