1 Series [Official] BMW 1 Series (F20/21) LCI

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
Yeah, this now officially is the best looking hatch. And it always was the best driving already.

And it still is completely unique with it's RWD and I6 engines. I loooooooooove it!

Quite interestingly the only sheetmetal change was to the tailgate. Amazing what you can do with altering just bumpers and lights.

The rear bares semblance to the 6 series.

and also they did a great job in closing the connection gab between those two connected tail lights (compare to the one on 6er and the rest of BMW line up), it makes the LED design lines flow a lot smoother.

Am I wrong or looks the LCI really half to one class higher as the pre- LCi and goes more in direction of the 5-Series?

Nice to see that Bmw was able to turn the 1 series around with the LCI. Small but effective design changes can go a long way. Well done BMW

I completely agree with you. I was not the biggest fan of the 1er, however the tweaks they've made here have made me really take notice. I actually really like it. The design looks more grown-up and fresh for some reason.

This LCI is by far one of the most improvements facelift BMW has done in decades, and Im not saying it is a good thing either. (pre LCI's value will drop like crazy) Personally looking at the comparison pictures, it is as if the LCI was the F20 successor. This time around it really shows that BMW has put a lot of afford, it shows that so much resources goes into re designing this car with a very thoughtful progress, so I think it is very clear by now that BMW, espeacilly Adrin who approved the first design himself thinks that the first design(which he was very proud of) is isn't working, and it also makes me realized that this is not a subjective subject either. but of course the car dose sell because it is a great car and it is a BMW.
for many many years.. I've felt some laziness coming from BMW design department, but with this F20 LCI has shown that BMW have step up their game. And really I hope BMW learned from this as a lesson, because I think if the F20 came out with this LCI designs from its beginning(which I think is very possible and could have happened), it will gain much more sells, one including from myself.
anyway, I've been a hardcore BMW fan for years and years, and I don't want my next car to be Audi or MB.. so good job on this LCI.
just my 2 cents

The idea that sales of the 1 Series are heavily influenced by the looks are a complete fallacy, IMHO. The prices of pre-LCI models will not drop any more than they would normally after an LCI, and sales of the new model will not suddenly increase massively due to the looks. This isn't an Mercedes SL we're talking about. It's a mass produced car, where fleet sales, rental car companies and corporations take a large number of the production slots. The impact of the looks on private buyers is also exaggerated. Sure, people may not be completely comfortable with the design of the pre-LCI, but the idea that there are thousands and thousands of people not buying the 1 Series because they don't like the look of it is a rather naive and simplistic viewpoint. The average non-forum-dwelling consumer doesn't work like that.

I'm counting on new Performance Parts and specifically the LSD and new wheels.

That said, the pre-LCI models will probably not plummet. They are great cars and the superficial lift the LCI gained will not affect 2:nd hand market interest. Well, I said that of the E46 M3 lift and I was wrong, but these buyers are different.

So then what compelled BMW to do such a major facelift? BMW rarely ever do such a comprehensive overhaul. The last time it happened was the E65 7er, but that's a more expensive vehicle. I imagine the cost to do this extensive update was not something the bean counters were happy with. So then why did they do it?

I don't think it costs much at all to do this, and the most recent one that comes to mind is the E90 3er.
