A3/S3/RS3 Official: Audi RS3

The Audi A3 is a small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Audi AG since September 1996. The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.

Poverty, if you change your TT-RS for that then you are doing a big mistake.

I doubt this will happen. Unless the RS3 was a superior drivers car which might not be as strange as it sounds.

Never gonna happen. Altough it not being a proper 4 seater is inconvient, I couldnt care less, as the driver will never be stuffed in the back! :D

RS3 is heavier, higher up, and isnt a pussy magnet like the TT!

UK prices have been confirmed at £39900 according to EVO magazine, that price with a car that is incredibly loaded with standard kit.

Exceptional value.

Indeed, lots of tech thrown in which are normally expensive options.

Does make it look a bargain.

Hope the 1SMC can compete on price or kit.

It will be minus the M-DCT which in the M3 BMW charge nearly £2500 so if kit is similar then it should be approaching the same figure, maybe a little bit more because of the fact it's a coupe which usually command a premium. A similarly specced 135i M/Sport coupe will cost in manual form about £34K minus the 19" rims which I reckon if an option was available would add about £1K to the price, so I reckon BMW will need to change at least £7K more from the 1M. Sort of in between the RS3 and TT-RS price.

If less than £41K then I reckon it's another bargain.:usa7uh:

From the pre-drive reviews over at 1addicts it seems that there could be a low tech basic edition with no NAV, I would expect that could allow them to come in @ £38k but for a similar spec to the RS3 I would say that could go from £40-41k like you suggest. although manual.

That's certainly what I am hoping for.

If it comes in at £45k, with options, I should think I'll be looking elsewhere.

It will definitely not come in near £45K, that would kill it stone dead in my opinion.

Agreed. I HIGHLY doubt it will touch that but who knows!

Depends what they spec as standard kit and what is on the options list.

At least we know there won't be an M-DCT to add, nor 19" wheels which I think will be standard from what I hear. And no dampers option so that leaves most of the expensive options off the list, leaving NAV and perhaps leather?

Even after all the discussions I still can't work out what seat coverings they will be offering! Does look like alcantara will feature heavily.

Alcantara, great to sit on but a bugger to keep clean. :eusa_doh:

If only the RS3 had been released two years ago, I would probably have had one sitting in the driveway.

Shame the Golf R didn't get the 2.5L, not a fan of the 2.0T. Test drove an S3 two years ago and wasn't keen.

Like I said before, never been a fan of A3. I rather buy a Golf R and save some cash.

I like the Golf R too and I know from talking to you that you love the car but if I put it another way, a similarly specced Golf R 5dr is within £2.5k of the RS3 and has the status of being an Audi, one has an engine with real character and superior grunt and one has an exclusive 2700 production run. When all this is consider I doubt even you would chose the Golf if you lived in the UK.

The Golf R is a much better car than the S3, Volkswagen learned from Audi's mistakes with the S3 and built something similar but better. But the RS3 has learned from both of them and from the TT-RS as well, yes it's late but I don't think it will be anything other than brilliant.

I suppose what I meant to say was I didn't like the power delivery of the engine, not necessarily the car or driving dynamics per se.

Did VW reconfigure the 2.0T for the Golf R and indeed Scirocco R?

I am also considering both as alternatives to the 1M and RS3, being cheaper and newer. Its also a shame the Scirocco R has the older Golf cabin. Is it due a refresh?

The Golf and Scirocco Rs use the same engine and setup as the S3.

I don't believe the Scirocco will receive any interior tweaks until it's mid-life facelift.

Yes both a brilliant in their own way but like for like the RS3 is much better value.

i think this car is absolutely sensational. ticks all the right boxes in terms of performace and pratciality. my only issues with the car are with the weight
and the price. Just hope it will be as good to drive as it looks.

MISSION FAILED
Talking about the car NOT the engine... looks like shit btw... "no RS exhaust" ???
:cry2:

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
