2016 Audi SQ7 spy photo / Automedia

Likely debuting at IAA
A near-production prototype of the Audi SQ7 has been caught on camera without any sort of camouflage.

It's a bit tricky to spot the differences, but upon closer inspection you will notice the lower portions of the front and rear bumpers have a modified layout and there's also a menacing quad exhaust setup. It also boasts beefier brakes, unique paint scheme and large black alloy wheels which aren't available for the regular second generation Q7. The interior cabin is virtually identical, with the exception of an "SQ7" logo added on the tachometer.

Likely to be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the first ever Audi SQ7 will be powered by a V8 turbodiesel engine featuring e-turbo technology and linked to a quattro all-wheel drive system. The displacement of the engine is not known at this point but it will likely be a 4.0 or a 4.2 and should develop more than 400 bhp (298 kW). It will allegedly be enough electrified muscle to grant a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in only five and a half seconds before topping out at around 186 mph (300 km/h).

Sales of the Audi SQ7 should kick off towards the end of the year at a price tag significantly higher than the €60,900 3.0 TDI quattro so don't be too surprised if it will cost around €80,000 or even more.

This thing is just unfortunate looking.

When you place the new Q7 next to the new GLC you will see how the tables have turned in terms of design.

Yes, that is the only problem with the newest Audis, they look so dumpy/dull or the same as before. Man if they could just get their styling to match their interiors which are of the die for variety, and very slick.

I gotta say I was somewhat surprised when I saw one on the road, it's no XC90 but it is a design that looks a lot better in real life than it does in a photo, the interior is also fantastic second only to the fantastic XC90.

Damn that XC90 is one impressive vehicle, I was invited for a test drive a week ago, it's a very impressive package, IMO allround a better vehicle than all the vehicles in the class, unless ultimate high performance is what you want in your SUV.

So far so good :D

I haven't see it on the road yet, but back at the NYC show it looked as dumpy as dumpy can be to me.

Slight correction.

It's THAT DAMN GOOD!

It really is that good. If I was in the market it would be my number one pick by a country mile. I still believe for some markets like the US the 4 cylinder only engine will not go down well and be a handicap, this isn't an issue in Europe for the vast majority of buyers.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
