Q7 [Official] Audi Q7

I really don't wish to drag this too much off topic but I am convinced that JLR pays/incentivises Haymarket and Dennis publishers to insert references to Jaguar and Land Rover products in articles covering competitor products. The reference - and it's supposed context - to the as yet unreleased and unappraised Jaguar F-Pace (what a stupid name) is so lacking in subtlety that "obvious" isn't a strong enough word.

To my mind, the most obvious and direct comparator to the Q7 is the Mercedes Benz GL - it too being an "uber-wagon" SUV. Why the GL isn't mentioned as the Q7's most direct rival is telling in itself.

Believe it or not, I actually agree with you on this part. I see enough evidence of JLR products NOT winning group tests to think there is a wholesale bias towards JLR, or that they are being paid to write good reviews, BUT, I can believe they are paid to mention JLR in articles such as this.

One thing about the GL though is that you barely see them in the UK, so maybe it would be more appropriate to mention the X5, of which there are many, many examples.

^ Would I be wrong in my perception that the Q7 and GL are 7 seaters and that the X5 is a 5 + 2?

Not sure. I always just assumed:

X3 = Q5 = GLK
X5 = Q7 = ML

And the GL didn't have a competitor from MB or BMW. The X7 will see to that.

X3 = Q5 = GLK [Agree]
How I see it:
X5 = ML = Touareg = Cayenne
GL = Q7
This is how I've come to view VAG's large SUV positioning.

Audi Q7 e-tron to offer an inductive charging system

Audi Technical Development boss Dr Ulrich Hackenberg has revealed the Q7 e-tron 3.0 TDI quattro will be offered with an inductive charging system.

Designed to ease the recharging process, the system will apparently consist of a base plate that owners simply park on top off. Hackenberg was coy on specifics but confirmed “Our system will start with 3.6 kW of charging and it will go to 7.2 kW soon, and there are ideas to go higher.”

Unfortunately, the system won't come cheap as Hackenberg says each charger will cost the company more than €1,000 ($1,060) and retail pricing will depend on the volume and demand.

In related news, the Hackenberg said Audi is working on a self parking system which will enable the car to be perfectly aligned with the induction charging plate. There's no word on when the system will arrive but Audi recently previewed the technology at the Consumer Electronics Show.

I understand that this is exactly what BMW and MB have offered for months, if not years, now.

X3 = Q5 = GLK [Agree]
How I see it:
X5 = ML = Touareg = Cayenne
GL = Q7
This is how I've come to view VAG's large SUV positioning.
XC60 =X3 = Q5 = GLK = Macan
ML = Touareg = Cayenne (5 seater, smallish boot)
XC90 = X5= 7 seater + larger more usable boot than above (tested with strollers :)) + still fits in parking square

GL = Q7 =7 seater, doesnt fit in the parking square :)

In theory the e-tron is really cool!!! But in reality I would have a hard time owning it due to the looks... They worked 10 years on a car that looks worse than the previous model.

I came into this thread once more with an open mind. Nah, it's still fugly.

A couple of observations regarding journalistic license:
Autocar without fail has to mention a JLR product in its report - this is absolutely a regular occurrence which I have observed personally so don't shoot the moderator
Auto Express claims it has an "Exclusive First Drive". Err, right you are chaps...

It makes me wonder if the reporter has even seen the F-Pace prototype?
I have and Its slightly larger than the BMW X3. I just don't see how they can compare to the Q7 which is not even in the same segment. Q7 is a larger but still predominately visually boring vehicle. I have seen a few in Munich now and it does not get better.

362HP Audi Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI quattro PHEV Is for Asian Markets Only

Since diesel-powered cars are not popular in China, Audi has developed a petrol plug-in hybrid version for the new Q7 specifically for Asian markets (China, Singapore and Japan).
Shanghai Auto Show, the Audi Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI quattro also marks the first time that Audi has combined a TFSI plug-in hybrid with quattro all-wheel drive.

The hybrid powertrain combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor for a total output of 367PS (362hp) and 700Nm (516lb-ft) of system torque.

The petrol engine alone produces 252PS (249hp) of power and 370Nm (273lb-ft) of torque, while the disk-shaped electric motor develops 94kW (128PS or 126hp) and 350Nm (258lb-ft) of torque. Together with a decoupler, the electric motor is integrated into the 8-speed tiptronic transmission.

The plug-in hybrid SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph). Even more interesting is the declared fuel consumption of 2.5 l/100 km (94.1 mpg US), corresponding to CO2 emissions of less than 60 g/km – according to China’s measurement method for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV).

The Audi Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI quattro can cover up to 53 km (33 miles) solely on the electricity stored in its 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, while total range is 1,020 km (634 miles).

The model can be recognized from other Q7 variants thanks to the special designs for the singleframe grille, the air inlets, the 19-inch (optional 20-inch) wheels and the rear diffuser.

Standard equipment includes the Audi virtual cockpit, MMI navigation plus with online updates of the navigation map, MMI all-in-touch, automatic air conditioning and 19-inch wheels, among other features. Optional extras include a head-up display, tinted privacy glazing, a panoramic glass sunroof and climate-controlled, customized contour front seats with massage function.

The Audi Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI quattro will be available in China, Singapore and Japan beginning in 2016.

Ranger Rover to date in a class of it's own.

Better add JLR products into the mix. X5 struggles to be a 7 seater, unless your children are midgets I wouldn't want to put them back there.

I checked the actual car above out yesterday,I almost like everything about this car except the front.Love the interior,the rear seats are so comfortable,which the new X5 and XC90 can not match.

2016 Audi SQ7 Revealed Bare Naked in Fresh Spyshots

Our carparazzi almost gave us a heart attack after sending in the first photos of the upcoming Audi SQ7 spotted free of camouflage while leaving what looks like an Audi facility.

The Q7 took the Detroit Motors Show by storm, and it should hit dealerships this summer because what we got here is way better: the 2016 Audi SQ7 spotted free of camouflage, during pre-production testing.

How do we know this is not your average Audi Q7? First of all, those quad tip exhaust outlets on the test prototype betray the SUV's real pedigree. There's definitely a high-performance warning sent out to competitors from the rear end, but we also found more clues by looking at the prototype's face.

On a regular Q7, the area around the fog lights would normally be surrounded by plastic bits, which does not apply to this prototype, as the black plastic zones were clearly cut out. Plus, the heavy-duty ceramic brakes are a pretty in-your-face display, hinting again at a hardcore model.

It also looks like intercoolers are peeking out from behind these openings, making us wonder what high-performance forced-induction gimmick will lie under the hood.

We have a partial answer to that since Audi already made it clear that the upcoming SQ7 will use a TDI powerplant and an electric supercharger. Pictures of the car's interior confirm that once you take a closer look at the instrument cluster dials.

We can only speculate at this time, but the engine powering the 2016 SQ7 might be a pumped-up version of the V6 TDI plant introduced by the RS5 TDI concept. As a second choice, Audi will probably opt for their 4.0-liter TFSI twin-turbo V8 already powering a handful of Audi's S and RS versions, as well as Bentleys.

Expect it to offer anywhere between 500 and 600 HP, but we'll wait for official specs from Audi. The Ingolstadt-based carmaker could also do the same as with the Audi SQ5, which only comes with a diesel engine in Europe, whereas the U.S. market receives an exclusive petrol variant.

Call it a funny coincidence or a twist of fate, but in one of the pictures you can see a street sign saying 'Rudolf Diesel Strasse'. Moreove, peak in performance will most likely generate the need for an updated suspension system, plus a more aggressive body kit as well as a sporty flavor inside the cabin.
