You mean press and hold the "off" switch before turning the ignition off, it won't come back on when restarting the engine?
Correct. I hope I'm right with the given info. If not, sorry.

OK. Two questions. First, are you absolutely sure? Not just the radio but any sound source, be it radio, CD or iPod? No matter whether you turned it off before you switched the ignition off, when you start the car again the audio will be back on again. And you can't even turn the volume down to zero, because when you start the car again the volume will increase back up to level 2 or 3. I owned the A1, I still own the R8 and they're the same. I've driven about 20 different Audis in the last five years, and on EVERY single one, the audio will always come back on.
Second question. If what you're saying is true, how on Earth do I get it work that way for me?!
Right, well this is great news then. I've no idea why I didn't know this. I will give it a try when I'm back in Holland and in my R8.
I still think it's a stupid way to do it though. In my BMW the radio is either off or on. Why you have to have a mute or a fully off I don't know.

It actually could be. It is about straight line speed and high speed corners or... pretty much perfect for the oval...and the name... Talladega.... I mean seriously. An Audi S8 is not what you think of when you think NASCAR/Stock Car racing.
Watch and learn BMW.
That looks just disgusting. Watch and learn how not to do it! It seriously looks like to took the interiors of three cars and combined them. Damn.
Is it blue and black or white and gold? Or everything? Quality looks top notch though, no complaints there. But with Audis it always looks better in pics than it feels in real life.
I like these new exterior colours we're seeing from Audi.
I hope BMW and Mecedes offer wider colour choices in future.
Mercedes is particularly conservative when it comes to colour choices.
I thought the red Brabus S class looked quite good.

Agreed SDNR. When I think of the colour portfolio of MB in the seventies and early eighties, today's is minimized to black and grey teints.
